I don't usually post my columns on here (should I? Now and then?) but this one has just received a huge response...
Who knew there were so many of us out there.

These women.

All through my working life I've been supported by magnificent female mentors/editors/publishers who've lifted, protected, guided and buoyed me; and recently, at the Walkley Awards for journalism, I got to hug in gratitude three of my most cherished; titans all in their respective fields.

Christine Middap, who as editor of the Weekend Australian magazine took a punt on me as a columnist 11 years ago; Shona Martyn, who as Harper Collins publishing director steered me so compassionately through the Bride Stripped Bare years and beyond and Michelle Gunn, who edits not only the Australian newspaper but the Weekend Australian (how's that for a mum of two.) I salute their generosity of spirit and their continual championing of other women - inspirational, the lot of them. I couldn't have done it without them.

And that lethal weapon I'm holding? Well, it's a Walkley award. For columnist/opinion writer of the year in Australia. I remain gobsmacked and so very, very chuffed. And want to dedicate the gong to all the glorious women out there who nurture other women to fly, in a professional capacity, thank you.

(Also thanks to the magnificent Emma from Luxe de Valentina for dressing me; another fabulous woman's woman.)

The whole night - best birthday present ever x
