From FYI: Brad Bradford “The Beaches-East York councillor, who finished eighth in the byelection, was one of five right-leaning members who held a Sept. 5 call to talk about how to resist aspects of Chow’s platform.”
“Stephen Holyday, another councillor on that September call, said Chow should not be fighting the Ford government’s Place redevelopment plan or spending millions of dollars to get 25,000 rent-controlled homes built when the city is in financial crisis.”
Yet Stephen Holyday continues to fight for funds for leaf collection and voted yes to $300 Million to host .🤔

Centre rarely gets any communication from Councillor Stephen Holyday but today he sent out an email about his fight for Leaf Collection?? But Holyday voted NO to the following:
- NO to spending $400K on 24-hour warming centres for 's during the coldest of nights
- NO for supportive housing
- NO on item about giving a below-market-lease to centre and not-for-profits
- NO to washrooms and drinking water in encampments at the height of
- The only NO vote against requiring landlords to ensure units are heated and cooled
- The only NO vote to protect at Place against the Ford government's redevelopment.
- NO to raising taxes - taxes provide our city with the services and programs to operate efficiently and be prepared for any unforeseen emergencies.
Leaf collection is a nice to have but not at the expense of the environment, the homeless, those who don't live in a house, those who lack access to the housing they need - Holyday's NO votes put safety measures and basic necessities at risk to meet the needs of people - all people and just not a select few. So much effort for leaf collection - a motion, email, community input - if only all matters affecting were as important, communicated and advocated for. Is Stephen Holyday representing you? Join us for Self Expression Portrait with artist Tanzina Amin! With individual guidance, each participant will create an artwork that is an abstract self portrait, using mixed media. The artwork will have images, words, colours and other elements that the individuals identify with, creating a "self portrait" without necessarily showing a face. The audience will know more about the person through the images and words than they would through a traditional portrait.
The artworks will later be shown in an exhibition as part of the Expressions of Wisdom: Storytelling Through Art project. There will be old magazines, images, words, paint and other material to get the creative juices flowing. This will be an excellent exercise for self reflection and expression.
*All materials provided. Light refreshments & TTC tickets provided for participants.

Given the scandal all plans to bulldoze Ontario Place and the Save Ontario's Science Centre should be stopped. Why the rush to cut down hundreds of trees???
Based on Ontario Place for All read of the Arborists report, 625 trees will be cut as part of this round of work, in total 1566 trees will be cut down at Ontario Place to facilitate a MegaSpa.
Doug Ford and Centre Kinga Surma are rushing to cut down Ontario Place trees to take away momentum from the campaign to save . If the trees are gone, it’s one less thing to rally around. It’s a vicious, anti-community approach, and never forget the compliant companies that carry it out.

Independent journalism saved the Greenbelt from development
A political reversal of this magnitude doesn’t just happen out of nowhere. The Narwhal’s Emma McIntosh, in partnership with our buds at the Toronto Star, first broke the story of the Ford government’s doling out of Greenbelt parcels to well-connected developers.
Emma remembers digging into property records to figure out just who were the biggest beneficiaries of the Greenbelt being opened up: “Back then, we were working long into the night, figuring out how to best serve this critical information to the public — and to do it quickly, before the decision was final,” Emma said. “I never could have imagined where this reporting would take us.”
The revelations by Emma and her colleagues caused a political crisis for Doug Ford’s government. In the intervening months, the province’s auditor general and integrity commissioner published reports divulging conflicts of interest and violations of ethics. The RCMP is also mulling an investigation.
Today’s news confirms that journalism by The Narwhal and other media outlets has also saved 3,000 hectares of land from development.
Today, the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario (ETFO) issued a statement responding to 1 Million March 4 Children protests that are scheduled to take place across Canada this week. The full statement can be seen at https://www.etfo.ca/news-publications/media-releases/etfo-strongly-condemns-anti-2slgbtq-protests.
ETFO strongly condemns anti-2SLGBTQ+ protests
"Any actions or events that seek to undermine the rights and dignity of the 2SLGBTQ+ community must be denounced. As such, ETFO strongly condemns this week’s planned protests, and calls on the government and school boards to do the same.
There is no room for hate in our province or our hearts. Yet we are seeing a disturbing increase in public discourse centred on anti-2SLGTBQ+ hate. It is alarming that several politicians are contributing to this troubling trend. Recently, Premier Doug Ford accused school boards of indoctrination. Education Minister Stephen Lecce scolded boards for upholding students’ human rights related to gender identity, and members of parliament are on social media using dog-whistle terms like ‘woke’ to gain political clout. Instead of spewing rhetoric they know is harmful and dangerous and that pits parents against educators, they should be ensuring safe and inclusive spaces for every student in the province and for every constituent they serve.
We are hearing that students and members, especially those who identify as 2SLGBTQ+, are frightened and concerned about the protests, in particular those being held near schools. Action must be taken to ensure safety.
We encourage all Canadians to engage in constructive conversations, to listen to differing perspectives, to reject bigotry, and to work together to build a more inclusive and equitable society for all. Through education and respectful dialogue, we can bridge gaps and create environments where everyone feels safe, valued, and respected. But first, we must embrace diversity and acceptance.
In this time of emboldened hate, let us stand together against transphobia and homophobia, and protect those who are targets of bigotry and discrimination. We commend school boards for their unwavering commitment to ensuring all students feel safe and included.
ETFO will continue to advocate for members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community, and work to protect the rights of vulnerable individuals who continue to be discriminated against, marginalized, and harmed."

Posted • WOW! In light of two recent reports, it's clear that there is no path to restoring Ontario's reputation that does not begin with reversing the $8.3 billion Greenbelt giveways immediately. Here's a breakdown of what's happened recently:
👉 Auditor General's findings confirmed that favoured developers could gain up to $8.3B in profits from removed lands, and that there is no need to use Greenbelt for Ontario's housing.
👉 The RCMP is looking into the Ontario government's decision to remove lands from the Greenbelt, but this could take years.
👉 Ex Housing Minister Clark breached ethics rules & resigned. New Minister, Paul Calandra, continues Greenbelt development plans despite the GTHA having 4x land needed for 30 years of housing.
👉 83% of Ontarians prefer housing within cities and towns, not on the Greenbelt, per an Environics poll.
👉 Take action! Tell your MPP to Give Back The Greenbelt.
