Jeanette Lindström

This is the official Artist Page for Swedish singer & composer Jeanette Lindström Finding your own way. That Jeanette has found her own musical path is obvious.

In the title track on her new album Queen on the Hillside, dedicated to her grandmothers and to those who have gone before, Jeanette Lindström explores what it means to have someone who sets the example to never give up, and at the same time conveys lust, the courage to dream and the freedom to create something of your own. With Swedish Grammis winner Attitude & Orbit Control (2009) she had taken

Thank you Norma Winstone and Ralph Towner for such a wonderful concert at Stockholm Jazz Festival last night. 🙏 Very, very beautiful.

I discovered Norma when I was about 19. It made me so happy, I had just started experimenting with singing songs without words in another style than the traditional jazz classics, and also with improvising more freely, and here was this fantastic singer doing exactly that and with such brilliance. Also her poetic lyrics touched me, as did her beautiful warm voice. She became very important to me, a big inspiration and role model. Especially through the collaboration with (another great idol of mine) Kenny Wheeler. Around the same time I heard her for the first time, I also became familiar with this band called Oregon, which had a guitarist called Ralph Towner… I hadn’t seen Norma live in many years, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen Ralph in a concert, so last night for me was pure joy.

Thank you Stockholm Jazz Festival!

Hey… ☀️ I hope you’re all doing well. Just a little note to let you know that ‘Bandcamp Friday’ is back - and it’s today! It means that if you purchase an album, everything goes to the artists, Bandcamp won’t charge any fees. A nice way to support musicians.

It’s of course absolutely fine to shop any other day too, but the Bandcamp Fridays are a little bit special. ☺️ Goes until midnight PST, meaning 9 am on Sat. Stockholm time.

Worldwide shipping.

- Still available: Queen on the Hillside, I Saw You and Walk

- Attitude & Orbit Control, Another Country and In The Middle Of This Riddle are sold out. However, Attitude & Orbit Control (feat. Robert Wyatt) can still be purchased in digital form

More of my albums will be added in the future. Followers on Bandcamp will be the very first to know, but of course I’ll announce it here and on Facebook as well as soon as they’re up.

In the end of January, I visited the Atlantis Metronome studio in Stockholm for the first time since the recording of my album Queen on the Hillside in 2012. …Ok I actually dropped by once during the renovations, but this was the first time ‘for real’, since it was up and running again. It’s such a beauty, the new owners made a fantastic job. 👌

I was visiting when Magnus Öström was recording his new album, with Daniel Karlsson, Andreas Hourdakis and Thobias Gabrielson.
I don’t think I have to tell you that this was big for me. I can’t believe it’s been so many years.
I realized I hadn’t even seen Tobbe and Daniel in person in all these years…! Wow. Just wow. These brilliant people who I used to spend so much time with before I got ill. A dear reunion.
I don’t know why I love old metres and electronics so much, but it was very nice to see them again too… 😅🙌

This visit made me really, really happy. There were happy tears…

I was of course honoured and delighted to hear the new music from Magnus, and their album A Room for Travellers (Jazzland) is actually being released tomorrow, on May 5! It sounds beautiful. ✨

Jul, jul, strålande jul 24/12/2022

I’m wishing you all a Happy Christmas and holiday ♥️ with this Swedish Christmas song called ”Jul, jul strålande jul”, that I recorded years ago with Steve Dobrogosz on piano.

It’s describing the glimmering of snow covered trees, a wish for peace, for Christmas to come and shield humanity with its wide ‘wings’ to bring peace and calm where there are battles and fears, through all generations, young and old... to bring some serenity in all the chaos…

Whether you celebrate Christmas or other holidays - or nothing, I wish you peace, I wish you calm. I wish you a beautiful weekend!

Merry Christmas! ~ God Jul! ~ Happy Holidays!

/Jeanette

It’s Bandcamp Friday, and I’m very happy to announce that my second album I Saw You (from 1997) has just been added.

https://jeanettelindstrom.bandcamp.com

Jeanette Lindström – vocals
Örjan Hultén - saxophones
Torbjörn Gulz - piano
Christian Spering - double bass
Anders Kjellberg - dr, percussion

Recorded by Bjarne Hansen in Sun Studio, Copenhagen, Denmark 2-5 June 1997
Mixed by Bjarne Hansen, Jeanette Lindström and Lars Silén in Sun Studio 22-23 July 1997
Mastering by Rune Persson / RP Recording

Produced by Jeanette Lindström
Executive Producer: Lars Silén

Caprice Records 1997

“The album I Saw You from 1997 presents an exciting repertoire. Eleven out of the twelve tracks are originals by Jeanette Lindström, three of them in collaboration with pianist & composer Steve Dobrogosz. We can also find lyrics written by singer & composer Lina Nyberg, and poems by Robert Creeley and Elizabeth Bishop. One of those with music by renowned Norwegian bassist Arild Andersen, originally recorded by Radka Toneff.

This is bold, mature artistry. Every piece has a distinct character of its own - a mood, a story told in words and music. The songs are performed with the mellow voice, the verve, intensity and superb technical mastery, which have made Jeanette Lindström so many people's favorite singer - a jazz musician out of the ordinary.”
____________

"Everything on I Saw You sounds quite personal, and it was obvious that Quincy Jones' praise of Lindstrom was more than justified." - allmusic.com

NEW!! (Though old ☺️) ✨ Finally, my first album, ANOTHER COUNTRY from 1995 is up on Bandcamp. And today is Bandcamp Friday!

We recorded this mix of my songs & jazz covers in just 3 sunny summer days, with engineer Bjarne Hansen in Sun Studio, Copenhagen in June -95.
I remember us really having lots of fun with my first band, my quintet - with Örjan Hultén on saxophones, Torbjörn Gulz, piano, Dan Berglund, double bass and Magnus Öström on drums & perc. Later on, Dan and Magnus had so much to do with the trio they were in with Esbjörn Svensson, e.s.t. and so they finally decided to focus only on that - which turned out to be a good idea. 😉 I was very happy to have them as well as Torbjörn and Örjan on my first album, touring lots in Sweden and abroad. We were also lucky to have the brilliant sound engineer Åke Linton with us on those first tours.

The album was part of the Jazz in Sweden-prize which I was honoured to be awarded in 1995, and was released by Caprice Records.
I'm pleased to now be able to offer these 10 copies of this album here on Bandcamp. It's an album that's very dear to me. My first "baby" as it were.

Here’s a link: https://jeanettelindstrom.bandcamp.com/album/another-country

This album is only available in CD-form on Bandcamp at this moment (has to do with rights). If you’d like to stream it, it’s available on all streaming platforms - but under ‘Jeanette Lindstrom Quintet’… https://spoti.fi/3fwqjij

Wishing you all a peaceful weekend. 💛

Some photos from a concert with Norrbotten Big Band & Tim Hagans + my band in Älvsbyn, on a tour we did in 2010 with the music from my album Attitude & Orbit Control. 🛰
I had the pleasure of working with NBB & Tim several times during the 15 years Tim was their artistic leader, always loved it. It was an honour to this time also have my own music arranged and played by Tim and the band.

She is in place! 🧚🏼‍♂️✨ “Angel No.3”, a work by London based photographer Zena Holloway
An underwater photography in large print combined with a soundscape triggered by a motion detector, all set up on a wall outside of the photo gallery Uponwalls in Hjo, Sweden as part of the art fair Hjo konstrunda this year.

The soundscape consists of a short passage from Margaret Atwood’s ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ read by Zena Holloway herself, moving over into the latter part of the song ‘North’ by Jeanette Lindström, from her album Queen on the Hillside (Lindström - voc & Steve Dobrogosz - pi).

Organized by Per Olsson/UpOnWalls, a gift to the town of Hjo by Wennergrens, Grenabo AB and UpOnWalls.

‘Angel No. 3’ is a guardian angel for the town of Hjo.

Unveiled in connection to Hjo Konstrunda on June 3rd, 2022. It will remain up for a long while, until further notice.

Intervju av Gabriel Byström i GP Göteborgs-Posten från augusti -98 (😮) Här hade jag gjort mina två första album, Another Country och I Saw You.

Old interview in Göteborgs-Posten, Gothenburg’s daily paper, from Aug 1998. It’s in Swedish, but I added a photo of my furry assistant as a compensation. 😎
