Coop's Clan is a foundation dedicated to providing ideas and resources to families fighting pediatric cancer.
Coop’s Clan is a non-profit organization founded by Cooper Barghols, a pediatric cancer survivor. In August 2007, Cooper was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) when he was just 9 years old. Like all such journeys, his was full of twists and turns, highs and lows, wins and losses. Along the way, Cooper and his family developed tricks and strategies that helped them "find their wins,"
take control of their days (and nights), and engage with their medical professionals as active, contributing members of the care team. Some of the best medicine during his treatment was the vigilant and encouraging group of family and friends that stretched across the country. This community of support was dubbed “Coop’s Clan”. As the community expanded to include friends-of-friends, names no longer mattered. Cards, letters, and packages would arrive and simply be marked “From Coop’s Clan.”
In 2015, Cooper founded the non-profit Coop’s Clan in hopes of extending that same kind of support to pediatric cancer patients everywhere. Specifically, through this foundation, Cooper pledges to support families through pediatric cancer treatment by providing fresh ideas for keeping busy while also helping them find their own wins along the way. He also plans to work with hospital programs to advocate a team approach to patient care.
