Hey everybody,
Please read and support with actual real dollars spent!
Sentiment is wonderful, but you may be surprised how many people love the idea of ParkGrounds in the neighborhood but dont actually frequent it that often. Im sure this is the case for Littles as well.
So, show some love to the locals that have there for the neighborhood thru thick and thin!
2023 has been a hard year for the service industry. Restaurants and bars have been closing all over our city, and those of us who are still open have had to dance more gracefully than ever before. Many factors have contributed to the struggle and while some are temporary, many seem to be lasting trends that can’t be ignored. Little’s has been facing these same factors both in our store and in our kitchen.
We made the decision in late 2019 to move our focus to our kitchen products and move away from retail products. Then Covid happened, and we answered the call to rebuild and stock ourselves like a fully functioning neighborhood market. We felt it was our duty to help in anyway we could, and we felt that by offering a smaller shopping experience to people combined with delivery options we could make getting necessities safer. I believe we performed amazingly, and I’m proud of my staff and neighbors for the way we worked together as a community.
Life moved on, the dangers of Covid were mitigated, and we started returning to our kitchen/snack store model. Things worked pretty well in this capacity for a bit, then supply chain issues started eliminating our grocery options. Our primary grocery supplier quit offering our level of service, and other options for products didn’t quite meet the need. More and more, as people were unable to get needed items from us, we became less and less an option, and our grocery business started drying up. There are too many modern style options for us to compete with, so after a time, we decided to carry only those things that are available to us through delivery, except for our fresh produce, which remains hand picked from Your Dekalb Farmers Market.
As much as we have loved our time as a neighborhood market, we feel the only way Little’s can survive will be as a fresh food kitchen with a small snack shop. We will be reassessing all products we carry so some may go away permanently while some may only be gone temporarily. We will not be heavily beer and wine focused anymore, but will carry only select options that fit our current clientele and theme. We are excited to be adding more prepared foods from our kitchen, made as weekly or daily specials, like the tritip bbq sandwich, whole grilled turkey breast, potato soup, biscuits and our famous pimento cheese for you to enjoy at home. We enjoy making food from scratch on a small scale, and we love the smiles we see as you enjoy the chicken creole at our counter. Our burgers, fries, chili dogs and onion rings will always be available, and we also want to provide these other home style meals much more regularly.
We will need all the support we can get as we go through these changes. We realize some of you will be disappointed that we can no longer offer things like milk and eggs, but we hope that disappointment is replaced with appreciation for what we will be providing. If you really want to help us reach that century of business mark, please come support our kitchen. The more we utilize that aspect of our business, the quicker we can rebuild the total business for success.
We love being on Carroll Street in our funky old building. We have done our best to make it a working art project, with one foot in the past, and one tapping in the here and now as the Creative Loafing article said of us all those years ago. We hope to see you all this holiday season, we love you all and we love being part of this community. Thank you all for the last 12 years, we truly appreciate each and every visit you have all made.
Peace!
