All moms everywhere, no matter their work or contract type, should have:
🧸 At least 18 weeks, preferably 6 months or more, of paid maternity leave
🧸 Paid time off for breastfeeding or expressing milk upon returning to work
🧸 Flexible return-to-work options

💙 Weaning Blues are a thing!!

When you stop breastfeeding, it can bring up all sorts of emotions. Even when you're fully ready, it can still cause big feelings.
A lot of people expect and understand this, but what they often don't know is the physical impact on your emotions too.

Hormones play a huge part in breastfeeding, so when it comes to an end it makes sense that there's a shift in those hormones too. And those hormones changes can cause some of our emotions to go a bit our of whack.

If can feel a lot like baby blues, or PMT (for those that get it). Tearful, snappy, vulnerable, low, mood swings...generally feeling out of sorts are some examples.
In my experience, for some parents it can also bring about strong feelings that they've made the wrong decision to stop feeding too, even when they were very ready.

Not everyone experiences this emotional stuff, and I know it can sound scary, but I think it's important we're honest and open about it.

It seems to last from a few days to perhaps a few weeks. If at any point it feels too much, or that it's going on too long, please don't hesitate to get some support.

We don't know who or why some people are more affected by this.
But if you know you're someone who is particularly sensitive to your hormones, for example you struggle with bad PMS, or your fourth trimester was emotional, it may be that this is more likely for you. But honestly, we don't have the research to know for sure.

Make sure you're kind to yourself in this time, get your support network to look out for you too.
