MEDIA RELEASE AND STATEMENT
Without prejudice,

There have been numerous false claims and accusations made recently on social media about my connection to and involvement in Kairos House, an institution for the mentally impaired in Cullinan.

These started some months ago after the disappearance and subsequent death of Shane Jordaan who had been a permanent resident of Kairos House for the past ten years.

The case is now being investigated by the South African Police Service. No arrests have been made but the police confiscated documents and medication from Kairos House as part of the investigation.

In the meantime members of a Facebook group called “Justice for Shane Jordaan, We are worth it! NPC and Individuals” are claiming that my businesses and myself personally, have financially benefitted from a government grant that Kairos House received and that I am in some way closely connected to the daily operations of Kairos House.

I want to state unequivocally that this gossip and allegations are completely devoid of truth. My only involvement with Kairos House has been by way of holding functions and arranging entertainment for the benefit of its residents. It has been my manner of supporting an institution that cares for more than hundred of the most vulnerable members of society. As a businesswoman I also supported other worthy causes over the years without any financial benefit for myself.

The ongoing unsubstantiated comments on social media made by persons who do not even know me, have resulted in my businesses suffering damages worth thousands of rands. It has also caused pain and suffering to members of my family and myself.

I have therefore instructed well-known lawyer, Oelof de Meyer, to take legal action against the administrators and members of the Facebook group “Justice for Shane Jordaan, We are worth it! NPC and individuals” as well as members of the late Shane Jordaan’s family who are all very active on this group and other social media platforms.

This civil action will of course have no bearing on the police investigation into Mr Jordaan’s death and the alleged involvement of Kairos House in his running away from the institution.
