New born baby springbok. This little one had not taken his first step yet when I captured this image of his mother cleaning him. This was one very hot December in the Kgalagadi Game Reserve, South Africa.
Mother and calf rhino somewhere in Africa! What a pity these beautiful animals have to be defaced to protect them from poachers.

Baby and mother Golden Tailed Woodpecker. I layered these two images to form a composite as the little bu**er kept pulling her head back into the nest when the parents returned to feed her and I wanted to show them together. The tree housing the nest is a massive Jacaranda a mere 7m from my patio.

Its certainly not easy to photograph kingfishers coming out of the water after a dive for prey or a bath. I shoot with both my eyes open which allows me to track the bird a lot easier.

A young female leopard being very protective of the kill her mother made for her and her brother. He was way to shy and remained hidden whereas she was very brazen. Timbavati Private Game Reserve, South Africa.
Cape buffalo are considered to be the most dangerous of the big 5, especially when wounded. Many hunters as well as non hunters have been gored to death or near death by what has been called the ' black death' and for very good reasons. This one was photographed in the Timbavati private game reserve.
A composite wildlife photo of the big 5 which I did for a book on 'Big Game Species' of Africa by Stephen J Carton-Barber (holding the book)looks really good on the cover. I also have the honour of the inside cover too. This is the proof edition for approval before the bulk printing gets done.
'Up close and personal' has always been my moto in wildlife photography yet always cognisant of the personal space of my subject. I had worked many hours with this female leopard and got to know her very well before her untimely death. Rest in peace my princess!!
Tawny Eagle just after lift off. Photographed in the Kgalagadi, South Africa.
Hippo bull showing us who is the boss of his water hole. A bull can weigh up to 2.5 tonnes and reach speeds of up to 30km/h. Photographed in the Kruger National Park.
This African Spoonbill was photographed at the Durban Botanical gardens. I used spot metering on the bright white feathers helping create a nice dark background. The image has done well for me!
Feeling honoured. Thank you!
Cape vultures at Giants Castle in the Berg. I have tried to portray them in different formats and think I have succeeded. The Cape vulture is one of nine different species of vulture found in Southern Africa. What makes this scavenger so important is that it is endemic to this region and is found nowhere else in the world. If our Cape vultures go extinct, there are no replacements! Scientists have classified the Cape Vulture’s conservation status as “Vulnerable”. This means that they face a high risk of extinction if we do not actively protect them.
