Thanks everyone for the kind birthday wishes on Friday!! Really appreciate it alot..
Didn't do much this year, been to focused on work! First time in 17 years we almost canceled a Xmas do for the children's homes we work with directly... as an NPO (non profit) we usually work with numerous children's homes, safe houses and children's places of safety! Luckily some great people stepped in and made it possible for us to do a lunch with games and treats for 100 people..
We used to do 3500 kids a year for Xmas pre-covid and since with limitations & so many financial restrictions and people losing jobs or emigrating we've had to drastically downscale! Remember we rely on donations and volunteers to get things done! We a small team (4) but still we manage to make a difference to so many!!
If we all do something small it adds up making a difference for those who are often forgotten!
The mats we share have the potential to create great friendships & comradary!
Im grateful for the many i have trained with, the students i get to teach, the others I've shared the mats with and those who no longer train... people are the key to becoming better and sadly not everyone will strive to be a lifetime student...
Not all victories are seen!! Medals and championships might shine a spotlight on things but typically its momentary!! The fight life for most martial arts Athletes is about hard work, the daily routine and determination, always pushing to be a better version of yourself..
Growing & learning techniques and disciplines sharpen your skill, but without repetition & constantly pushing yourself to be better there can be no success.
The mats reveal every mistake & they expose each weakness, this reality check can be humbling but also devastating if your not willing to accept that learning requires failure...
Jiu-jitsu has intriqiusies & nuances that go beyond just learning a movement or sequence, once the deeper details become part of your learning experience the endless possibilities open up if your creative & imaginative enough to try....
We all have our reasons why, but for the very few the reason alone is enough to keep us coming back... there will be challenging times life does that to everyone! Health, finances, family & work will always take president but figuring it out despite these challenges is what makes the small successes we earn so very rewarding...
Learning by doing is what makes Jiu-jitsu such an addictive game, you may practice a sequence over & over but once it goes live the whole sequence goes out the window, basics build foundations then Learning control & movements! The process requires time and constant effort but once it snaps together the results are undeniable.
A roadtrip, then getting to play Jiu-jitsu!! Awesome way to spend a Saturday. Always great learning from Prof.Jurgen and to join our
With sensei Pieter... great sequence covered today a definite must have in the arsenal...
myself and representing XKT brakpan with Prof.Jurgen today
Actively been training 12 years, health complications & some injuries been biggest hindrance forcing extended periods off the mats!!
The big realization is returning knowing that i train for myself and to be better than I was yesterday..
Sharing the mats & been able to teach others has allowed me to hopefully spark & inspire others to try and be part of a martial arts family..
Martial arts will always be challenging and the moment you're arrogant enough to think there's nothing to learn you're going to get a rude reality check...
Be humble enough to listen, patient enough to learn and tough enough to be knocked down & stubborn enough to keep getting up and trying again!!
Failure is only an opportunity to learn if your prepared acknowledge it.

Training, when done right! Brings inspiration into everything you do.
Those few moments everything else just doesn't matter as much, because in that instance all thats important is surviving that roll and focusing on self defense....
To commit time and effort to doing something that has beneficial effects on health, fitness and mental empowerment is a skill everyone should invest in...
Rolling with a plan, teaching to move while opening opportunities!! Limit the game so that the skill needs to be exposed not flaunted...
Jiu-jitsu can be so simple, yet given the multitude of potential options everyone forgets that creativity is understanding basics and exploiting them...
Rolling once understood becomes problem solving in action, each situation has options to defend, attack or escape & depending on your level and ability the result can be reversed or worsened! Just as in life every challenge has its opportunities if we're cautious & smart enough to learn from it!!
Take the time to appreciate moments, because even our worst days training will still be therapeutic!
Take a breath, shake off the days worries and submerge yourself into the moment. For the hour or more of training you put in will be yours to take control of!!
Get after it & know that you determine what success you'll achieve because you're doing it for yourself...
Training becomes part of your daily routine and development as a person these moments away from lifes stresses and worries is the magic that makes Jiu-jitsu such an addictive obsession...
Keep Training and become your own best self!!
The results are shown by the effort put it! Not everyone can be exceptional so that they are good at will be something they'd excel at!!
Life dictates conditions too! sickness, family, work all will affect your training so understand why you training & use the time you get training so that it can be productive.
For those who choose to train not for medals or trophies but rather for self improvement & enjoyment the small victories will create lessons and memories that will be part of you.
The mats build friendships, everyone I've ever trained with will always have a place in the story of my Jiu-jitsu...
There have been & presumably will be plenty more people I'll share the training mats with, i look forward to many more memories the mats will reveal...
I train for myself & because i teach its important that I help others experience and enjoy the moments the mats offer!!
There's a difference between been competitive and been ego driven! Not every training session is life or death & nobody's keeping score...
Losing is inevitable and winning a training round is insignificant so remember to do the work and keep showing up... you're accountable to your own growth and goals so dont let your Ego hinder your learning potential...
A reminder if you're in the Centurion area... Prof.Jurgen Putter will be doinga seminar at ...
Geat opportunity to learn details to add to your skills...
Stay consistent and progress is inevitable, doesn't matter how life tries to wreck your goals and crumble your mind! If you keep showing up little by little results will happen....
Im a Type 1 diabetic (insulin dependent) and I'm no stranger to health issues that force you to step off the mats, for me the struggle is part of my process and dealing with it & training accordingly is part of my everyday routine!! So for me no matter how overwhelming i stay focused on what Jiu-jitsu offers me!!
Solace, purpose and challenges!! Just as does life....
Remember to cherish small moments life blows by way too fast so try occasionally enjoy some chaos, value friendships & learn not to let yourself be drowned by your emotions....
For the few, we choose this as part of who we are! We sacrifice our time, injuries & years on the mats in pursuit of becoming our better selves! The cost is heavy and for many not worth the effort, but for us those who choose to keep showing up it's one of the most important decisions to make for ourselves...
We represent a small part of the team that represent both and Prof.Jurgen Putter guiding & building my Jiu-jitsu journey & my xkt family Raymond, Ryan and Jacques helping me grow and develop into a better martial artists... the shared knowledge as a team is unfathomable & working together we strive to make better human beings through martial arts, offering a place that is in all aspects a second family!
Seminar with Prof.Jurgen Putter..
Always an exceptional opportunity to level up your Jiu-jitsu or network amongst other Jiu-jitsu enthusiasts...
Your reason to train is as big a part of the process, once you lose the motivation it'll be your drive to keep showing up... anyone been at it long enough understands that excuses to stop are everywhere & to backslide happens to everyone! Thats why having a reason why & staying true to your reason will be what set you apart...

In life every move matters, in martial arts the difference between seconds can be the devastating! Too early & all your effort is wasted, yet too late and you're in danger because you're compromised!!
Successful results come from multiple movements linked together to break down the barriers and expose an opening or gap! These moments result in opportunities to take control or dictate the conditions forward, as in life the right results take sometime but when things happen its often instantaneous...
Jiu-jitsu, life and any combative sport requires working tediously & meticulously at developing skills, timing, precision & the time spent with preparation will help goals obtainable! But slacking off will mean you'll fall short everytime pressure is on!
For me every level is symbolic of understanding, creating and learning, each phase a representation of time spent grasping the principles and objectives..
Every color a simplistic ideologie showcasing the knowledge you have accomplished & utilized!
In Jiu-jitsu stripes are awarded as milestones between belts, a reminder of what you've accomplished..
Leveled up, earning some stripes from Prof.Jurgen.. always great to catch up with the guys from and to learn from great seminar based on good techniques and great details!
