Do not miss the opportunity to have your Will drafted!

The UWC Law Clinic will visit the Library on Thursday 12 September 2024.

They will primarily be conducting the drafting of FREE wills, but will also assist with legal issues where possible.

To make use of this opportunity, be sure to bring the following documentation with you:
*ID or Smart Card
*Title Deed
*Municipal Account
*Copy of your beneficiaries' ID
Any other relevant documentation to be included in the will.

On Friday, 26 July 2024, the Clinic along with Street Law volunteers collaborated with the Faculty of CHS in offering legal advice and services to the community of Klipheuwel.

Yesterday, three of our attorneys consulted with the community at Bellville South Public Library and drafted Wills in accordance to the clients’ last instructions.

The UWC Law Clinic will be available at the library - do make use of their free legal services

Yesterday, one of our attorneys’ was invited as a guest speaker to present at the City of Cape Town’s Library and Information Services ~ Communication Session, on Leaving a Legacy & the Importance of having a Will.

Today we consulted with the community at Bellville South Public Library and drafted Wills in accordance to the clients’ last wishes.

Yesterday we partnered with the City of Cape Town: Social Development and Early Childhood Development in hosting a Disability Awareness Workshop which was held at the Vanguard Community Hall.

• Speaker for the Long Walk to Freedom Special Needs Organisation
• Water and Sanitation

On 4 October 2022 - the Law Clinic partnered with Social Development and Early Childhood Development for the Older Persons Awareness Programme held at Proteaville Recreation Civic.

Today we hosted a Wills Information Session with the senior citizens that reside within the surrounding areas of Bellville South Library.📚

The UWC Law Faculty is deeply saddened by the passing of Millicent Mabengeza (known to the staff and students as Ms Millie), who served as an assistant office administrator at the Law Clinic for the past 26 years. Ms Mabengeza passed away at the age of 58 in the early hours of this morning due to health complications.

Ms Mabengeza is fondly remembered by all her colleagues and friends as a quiet and hardworking woman. She was always respectful and maintained a private and dignified demeanour and focused on her job.

Ms Brett said that she will remember Ms Mabengeza as an honest person who told you exactly what was on her mind but never judged people.

The Faculty of Law extends its sincere condolences to the Mabengeza family, her daughter and two grandchildren.

The EMC has replaced the Interim COVID-19 Vaccination Policy with the Return to Campus Plan that no longer requires any person attending Campus to be vaccinated. No proof of vaccination will be required to enter the University Main Campus. The Return To Campus Plan is effective 25 July 2022.

As such we are able to assist all clients, both vaccinated and unvaccinated.

On 25 November 2021, the University Council approved the Interim COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for UWC. The policy makes it mandatory to be vaccinated if you require access to University property.

Therefore, only vaccinated clients will be allowed access to our offices situated on the campus. Should you be unvaccinated we will offer assistance telephonically.

Human rights are rights that everyone should have simply because they are human. In 1948, the United Nations defined 30 articles of human rights in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. It established universal human rights on the basis of humanity, freedom, justice, and peace.

Human Rights Day in South Africa is historically linked with 21 March 1960, and the events of Sharpeville. On that day 69 people died and 180 were wounded when police fired on a peaceful crowd that had gathered in protest against the Pass laws. This day marked an affirmation by ordinary people, rising in unison to proclaim their rights. It became an iconic date in our country’s history that today we commemorate as Human Rights Day as a reminder of our rights and the cost paid for our treasured human rights.
