♥️ OT MONTH ♥️ Tools in my OT bag: travelling OT edition Tunnel. I love using this material tunnel with my kids. It’s easy to move around and great for proprioceptive input. Beanbags. These can be used for a variety of activity; throwing and catching, balancing on head, squeezing and so much more. Another item that is easy to move around and pack in your bag. Counters and buckets. Often used as part of an obstacle course activity for colour concept, grip, number sense, encouraging imagination and more. The kids also teach me a few dinosaur names too! Happy tap. A new game in my cupboard that is been so fun to use with my kids. It’s great for bilateral integration, grading force and visual perception. Travelling basket. I use this as a multi-purpose basket. Both to carry all my goodies and also as part of my activities for carrying, throwing inside, pushing and pulling. As a travelling OT, what do you always have in your bag? ♥️ OT MONTH ♥️ This month I will be sharing all my favourite tools in my OT bag starting with the private practice edition. Spandex hammock. My kids I love it. I love it. Everyone loves it. Great for heavy work input and for providing vestibular input. It can be used for some quiet, calm down time or for various activities. Teddies. Another winner in the practice. Many of my kids struggle to communicate their needs and regulate themselves. The teddies not only provide a safe space for the kids but are great for a cuddle and often used a tool to communicate with my kids. Chalkboard. The chalkboard provides good resistance when practicing writing but also great for encouraging work on a vertical surface which is good for shoulder and core stability Crash mat. It provides a safe and comfortable space for kids to fall and jump into and great for proprioceptive input. Trapeze. The kids often start off wary of the trapeze swing. It can be scary but once mastered, provides a space for so many different activities to encourage shoulder stability, core strength, motor planning, grip and so much more. These are just a few of my go-to’s in the practice. What is your go-to? This is a fun way to incorporate letter/sound identification, core and shoulder stability and some fun arts 🎨 Activity can be completed in prone (laying on tummy), 4 point kneeling (crawling position) or standing up!
