There’s nothing more incredibly heartwarming and special than being able to help someone without expecting anything in return. Our beloved Madiba knew that. That’s why we honour his legacy every Mandela Day by spending 67 minutes in service to make the world a better place. And in return, we experience the heartwarming satisfaction that comes from helping others. This July, Operation Smile is delivering a surgical programme in Gauteng – giving local children born with cleft lip or palate access to free, world-class surgery they might otherwise never get. And we’re inviting you to be part of it. You might not be able to perform life-changing surgery on a child with a cleft lip or palate, but your donation in celebration of Mandela Day is just as important. Because, without funds to bring the medical team together and pay for medical supplies like drugs, antiseptic, dressings, scrubs, masks and gloves – we couldn’t do the work we do. Please consider making a donation this Mandela Day. Instead of 67 minutes of your time, give R10 per minute for a donation of R670 towards surgery for a child born with a cleft. https://operationsmile.org.za/mandela-day/#form

As we commemorate Africa Day tomorrow, we envision a future where every African has access to quality healthcare and education. Operation Smile remains steadfast in its commitment to this vision, empowering communities, training healthcare professionals, and building resilient health systems across Africa—a journey towards a healthier, more prosperous Africa for all. Our approach emphasizes capacity building and development to ensure the long-term sustainability of our initiatives. Through strategic partnerships with academic institutions, ministries of health, and corporate entities, we deliver targeted programs tailored to address the specific needs of local healthcare systems. In Africa, Operation Smile provides both medical care for patients and educational programs for healthcare workers across 10 countries. Since 1987, Operation Smile has delivered high-quality care to approximately 9,000 patients in Kenya alone. Our reach extends to countries including the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Madagascar, Malawi, Morocco, Mozambique, Rwanda, South Africa, and Tanzania, where it collaborates closely with local communities and healthcare professionals to improve access to essential healthcare services and education. This year's African Union theme, "Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa," profoundly resonates with our mission. Our work in Africa extends beyond surgical interventions; it's about constructing sustainable healthcare systems capable of withstanding challenges and serving communities for generations to come.

Mbombela, we are on our way. #PartnerAppreciation Without our partners from the business community #OperationSmile simply could not achieve what it does each year. DHL have been partners with OSSA since our inception in 2006. They assist in transporting and delivering our equipment and cargo around the continent, to help us reach more patients and create more smiles DHL Africa are more than partners, they are part of the OSSA family.
