SASCO UKZN Edgewood Branch.

Statement To The Current ECRC.

Greetings deplyees of the massive students movement.

This is of the concern students raise and underline as a weakness in the current ECRC. It is also proven by the reality of the current state of the institution.

The ECRC structure has turned to a disgrace to the movement and to the expectations of the mandate the organization represents. It remains undefendable and shameful to witness the kind of student governance you have formed. The truth must be told and lies be revealed in all costs.

Sad it is to be labeled as an organization that is disfunctional as a result of the conduct the deployed student body presumes. The division within the ECRC structure has resulted in disfunctional and ignorant deployment and that has grown to an extent that it affects the wellness of students in the entire institution. Failing to work for a course of students and the advancement of the principles of the organization, has costed the organization ironic picture to the students. The collaboration candidates had during campaigns and at early stages of the office, has been underlined as an act that characters mustered to buy the viewers trust, yet it is an irony and not true as for the reality and proceedings of the structure. Almost each member of the SRC has his own agenda completely different from others in all campuses. Every member is operating on an island, ignoring students who trusted them and the organization that deployed them. This has led to a disfunctional structure that only gains a kg in each day. There are members of the structure that can not even be proven if the are still alive and if they are still members of the ECRC. Some were last seen and head during campaigns, till this date, they are silent and ignorant to the fact that they represent students with issues on daily basis. Students are left unattended and ignored by the governence they voted.

The students organization (SASCO) will not allow that to be associated with its principles it represents. We are the organization with morals and values so as principles that guide the constitution of the organization. Members of this organization will not be held accountable for the SRC failures and boss tendencies.

The organization will temper with each an every member of the ECRC, through reports and validation of true representatives. As per students recommendations, the organization will temper with undeclared second term interests of the very same silent ECRC members and individuals who happened to muster popularity and ironically became leaders.

*SASCO EDGEWOOD BRANCH STATEMENT ON THE UNIVERSITY COMMUNIQUE DATED 3rd JAN 2023*

Official Statement
Effective immediately
05 January 2023.

We hop this smolanyana writing finds you in a good state of living. The SASCO Edgewood branch notes with concern the strange communique sent by the office of registra.

On the 3rd of January 2023, through the office of the registra, the UKZN dispatched a very strange communique against its very mission of being the premier university of African scholarship.

The communique in question sought to ensure a strategic sabotage of accesses to education by the destitute, particularly black prospective students. It worthy noting that as SASCO we are not against the technological advancement and the use of internet to supplement other manual forms of functionalities. But we reject the usage of online services as the only means of accessing education.

It is disappointing that as SASCO we are at a point where we have to appraise the university that a significant number of UKZN student and applicants are from poverty-stricken backgrounds with limited digital resources for online activities. As SASCO, we have; _ab initio_ been conspicuous about our position that we are against anything that is unfavorable to students.

Therefore SASCO Edgewood branch categorically rejects the university communique in question with the contempt it deserves and define it as an attempt to derail and discourage access to education. Such communique makes us wonder what pride UKZN has in institutionalising such only elite-catering processes.

The less said about the current UKZN SRC, the better. Beyond reasonable doubt, the SRC has not disappointed on maintaining its poor record of comprehending even bare minimum basics of what it means to lead students. The currents SRC stands for absolutely nothing that relates to students matters.

We are exploring other means to convene our yearly Right to Learn Campaign beyond the set WhatsApp platforms which are already operational.

In the meantime, SASCO implores all needy students to make use to the WhatsApp links herein to access assistance regarding matters in relation to applications and registration.................................................

STATEMENT OF SASCO EDGEWOOD BRANCH ON YOUTH DAY

Thursday, 16 June 2022

Revolutionary greetings are extended to the populace of Edgewood campus.

The Soweto uprising took place in June 16, 1976, when black students gathered to march against the apartheid government after Afrikaans became a compulsory medium of instruction in schools. Students were confronted by highly armed police who fired tear gas and end up firing bullets throughout the march. Thousands of students were injured as a result of police brutality, and hundreds of students died as a result of the unrest.

South African students in various institutions of higher learning have failed to achieve the objective of *"FREE EDUCATION."* By ignoring the arresting of our students and brutalizing young people for expressing their demands, we have let the anti-black government to shut this down. Many organizations, including students, have ignored the revolution. May this day reawaken our awareness regarding the significance of fighting for our rights and not to give up until we have defeated the oppressors. The struggle for the free and quality education in this country must continue.

Today, we have a large number of students that owe the university a huge amount of money, some of these students are coming from low-income families. We have students who have been financially excluded by the University but who meet the requirements to register in our institution.

What are our plans as young people in this country, to assist our brothers and sisters to be part of us?

Today's educational system is far from being perfect; we are entitled to far better. This system is more Eurocentric and it does not allow our generation to become critical thinkers; instead, it robs them of their critical thinking skills and turns them into curriculum memorizers since they do not bring anything new to the table. We want a system that encourages our brothers and sisters to think more creatively and come up with new ideas for making our country a better place. We study a lot in our curriculum that isn't helpful and instead add to our workload. May we be assisted with young people who will push the boundaries of the curriculum at the University of KwaZulu-Natal.

In 2022, there has been an increase in the number of students who were rejected by NSFAS and were not given the opportunity to appeal. Additionally, these students have not received laptops even though we are studying online. They do not receive meal allowances, and the university does not provide food assistance. It is our responsibility as the country's young people to unify and resolve these concerns.

We hope that one day, we will be able to join forces with all other organizations and institutions to demand an increase in NSFAS, as prices continue to rise, funds are insufficient to cover all of our students' expenses. May we one day join to pursue job opportunities because we see many graduates unemployed, and many young people engage in criminal activity because they are unemployed. We must take a position and demand from the government that jobs be provided for the youth of this country!

Thank you.
