Today was our annual Seeff National Awards. Last year, watching our colleagues across the country being awarded, we half-seriously quipped; "next year you watch! We're going to take the Ooba award". We aren't really ones for accolades, but this is the one we would aim towards for two reasons:

We have the best bond originator that ever existed; the female Robin Hood of the banking system and closest thing to a real life angel you would ever meet. But secondly, Maria and I know that our figures go everywhere - while we do lovely high-end sales we never say no to any home someone wants to entrust us with. We meet people from all walks of life and in all (good and bad) situations. Many times we've been moved by people's stories, many times we've cut our earnings to the barest minimum to make sure the trust in us is justified, to help where and when we can. And so the Ooba bond award is a true reflection of the work and volume we do; the most accurate milestone we can achieve.

We did not expect that we would have achieved this at all, in fact we made jokes about being proud of our commission-cutting-queens status and tongue-in-cheek Oscar acceptance speeches just this morning. I was out at viewings and Maria was loudly telling everyone how we need to "up our game" while the Ooba awards came across the screen showing us as the winners in our division for number of units and runner-ups for rand value. Of course we had to smile extra wide with a jubilant Debbie Van der Watt for our photo-op
