: We are pleased to report that after an intervention by the Office of Chair of Chairs there is action take to rescue Slovoville Primary School from ruins and most importantly to save the lives of pupils and teachers who for years were placed at danger by a massive dam resulting from mining operations.
The dam has caused untold damage to the classrooms and sports facilities.
We have received cooperation from the mining company responsible who have reached started operations to drain out water.

: The Chair of Chairs in the City of Joburg Cllr Lloyd Phillips reassured elderly citizens at the Donovan McDonald Old Age Home that the Office will ensure that all the grievances including lack of proper maintenance and security at the facility will be monitored continuously.
Cllr Phillips led his office to a second oversight visit to the facility to report back on grievances raised by senior citizens in May.
Phillips has promised to reach out to relevant departments and various role players to follow up on the matters in a bid to find a speedy resolution
: The Chair of Chairs in the City of Joburg Cllr Lloyd Phillips handed over vegetable packs to the elderly at the Donovan McDonald old Age Home earlier in Roodepoort, Region C.
Cllr Phillips visited the facility ahead of the Christmas break to celebrate with the elderly.
Most importantly the office of the Chair of Chairs offered an update on maintenance issues that were raised by the elderly during an oversight conducted in May.
: Stakeholder engagement spearheaded by the Office of the Chair of Chairs COJ-Chair of Chairs and the office of the Joburg Ombudsman ombudsman under way.
The other key role players include the Department of Mineral Resources, The SAPS, Riverlea Mining Forum, City of Joburg Department of Human Settlements.
The continous engagement aims to derive lasting solutions to solve the ongoing issues of arising from illegal mining in Riverlea.
This initiave started in March where the office of the Chair of Chairs, the Ombudsman and Riverla mining forum conducted an oversight to determine the socio-economic challenges associated with illegal mining.
The ultimate goal is to create a blue print of resolving issues caused by illegal mining that could be implemented across the City.

: Last week I went to Slovoville Primary School to conduct an oversight visit accompanied by members of Section 79 Committee. The School build in 2014 is now flooded by waste water allegedly caused by the mining activity nearby as eNCA 's Sondri Naidoo reports.
Local ward councilor said the situation has led to puipls and teachers failing ill.
We are going to ensure that we follow up and bring all necessary role players in our next visit.
