Assistive tech braille display
What is a braille display? πŸ€” A braille display provides access to information on a computer screen by electronically raising and lowering different combinations of pins in braille cells. A braille display can show up to 80 characters from the screen and is refreshable. The device sits on the user’s desk, often underneath the computer keyboard. Assistive tech closed captioning
What is closed captioning? πŸ€” Close captioning is helpful to people with hearing impairments, as the technology converts audio content into text and displays it on screen. Closed captions not only display words as the textual equivalent of spoken dialogue, but they also include speaker identification, sound effects, and music description. Close captioning can be enabled on programs such as YouTube and Netflix. There are also a range of high-quality apps which convert phone calls and social conversations into text. Assistive tech screen reader
What is a screen reader? πŸ€” A screen reader helps people who are blind or visually impaired to access and interact with digital content, such as websites and social media. Most commonly, a screen reader uses text-to-speech (TTS) technology to read text aloud in a synthesised human voice. In addition, some screen readers can convert onscreen text into braille. For this function, users connect an external device, called a refreshable braille display, which generates braille characters on a pad as the screen reader scans the text.
