Putting on my Sunday best

Have been sitting with a spinal headache for days, apparently it's very common after lumbar surgery. It eventually went away last night after taking a hot shower, lying down in supine position on the bed with no pillows in a dark room and believe me or not, taking a cup of caffeine.... Dr's orders.

So I felt so good this morning that I had to dress up and I even tried some tricks that showed me in a quick masterclass while I was visiting in George a few years ago!

So we got the sad news that I must go in for surgery on the 30th of January as the damage on my spinal cord is getting worse. With that being said I wont be able to do any activities that might add pressure to my lower back for at least 10 to 12 months after surgery. My surgery is scheduled for when we where suppose to go on holiday to Limpopo.

I need you help please. I need to sell our holiday to get at least some of the money back. Holiday is worth R30600. If we can get at least R15000 we would be happy.

Ok, can it already be November, please because...

I'm so excited for the long awaited return of the Whisky Live Festival on 1, 2 and 3 November 2023 and this year they will be celebrating their 21-year legacy at the exclusive and bespoke The Firs in Rosebank.

There is just no way I'm going to miss this event and already got my ticket. There are only 1500 tickets per night and 60 tickets per night for the master classes.

So I've discovered this foolproof pear upside-down cake recipe today, and I must confess it's absolutely heavenly delicious. So quick and easy to make....

Ingredients

• 50g butter (sauce)
• 1/3 cup brown sugar (sauce)
• 1 tsp cinnamon (sauce)
• ½ tsp ground ginger (sauce)

• 3 pears firm medium peeled sliced
• 150g butter
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 3 eggs
• 1 1/3 cups self-raising flour
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 1 tsp cinnamon
• 1 tsp ground ginger optional

Method

• Preheat oven to 180C or 160C fan forced. Line the base of a 22cm spring form cake pan with baking paper. Or use a silicone ring pan (no baking paper needed)

• Melt 50g butter, 1/3 cup brown sugar, ginger and cinnamon for sauce together and pour over the baking paper. Cover with sliced pears in a circular pattern.

• Beat together butter and sugar until pale and creamy.

• Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the combined flour, baking powder, ginger and cinnamon.

• Spoon the cake batter over the pears. Bake for 35 minutes until a skewer inserted comes out clean.

• Leave to rest for 5 minutes and then invert onto a serving plate.

• Serve with custard, whipped cream or caramel sauce.

As some of you know I will never be able to have children of my own because of endometriosis, leading to infertility. Last year I just had enough and had to make the most difficult decision of my life. I had to get yet another endometriosis surgery and a hysterectomy done. The last couple of years was a rollercoaster of emotions. Just to cope with all the medical decisions and all the uncertainties that goes with it was so exhausting. It was just time to take my health and my emotional well-being in consideration.
There is such a big psychological and emotional impact on woman and couples who is struggling with infertility. I remember all the questions that went through my mind all the time; why me, will I ever be able to enjoy motherhood, will I still be good enough in my husband's eyes if I can't have children, and the list goes on! I am still struggling with a lot of questions, emotions and feeling of loss and emptiness! It's so hard to describe.

Happy Youth Day! What dish will you make using garlic oil?
Last night I grilled some prawns using the Wilson's garlic oil from . I was very skeptical at first when I smelled the strong garlic because I'm not a huge fan of garlic, thought it would over power the marinade I used for the prawns, but oh boy it was so yummie. The garlic oil is so diverse, perfect for grilling, frying, using as a dressing and even in your dog's food to keep their coats healthy and keep fleas at bay.
For the marinate I used the Wilson's cold pressed extra virgin olive oil as a base then added some coarse black pepper, merlot salt, smoked Spanish paprika, cayenne pepper, crushed lemon chilli and fresh lemon juice. The combination of the marinade and garlic oil made the prawns super tender and moist. I grilled the prawns on our Snappy Chef cast iron grill plate that fits perfectly on our gas stove.

Recently I was gifted this gorgeous bottle of Azzaro Wanted Girl perfume. I must say the smell is not what I expected. I imagined myself that it will have strong notes of jasmine and patchouli, almost like Clinique's Aromatics Elixir. But it was totally the opposite. The Azzaro Wanted Girl got a very warm, sweet and seductive smell with notes of sweet fruits, fresh spices and wood. Very odd combination but it definitely works! It is a perfect perfume for those hot summer days!

Can we just cuddle mommy, it's cold!
Last night was really cold....so this one decided he is going to sleep between mommy and daddy! I don't mind their cuddles at all, I actually love it, but Boesman was snoring the whole night, like loud snoring. So I only fell asleep after 3 this morning.
But just look at that face mommy! Even though he kept me up all night with his snoring....I still love him to bits 🐾💛🐾
