++ SAVING POWER - HERE'S HOW THIS WINTER ++
Would you like to slash your winter heating energy consumption bill? Further increases in the price of electricity have been enacted by Eskom already and by 1 July will also affect all municipal customers. How do we come out on the budget? With *Eco-Insulation Cellulose Fibre Roof Insulation* you can make great progress in using less grid power.

Solar PV panels on the roof that are strong enough to power heaters are not always the answer especially at night, if you are on a limited budget. But some rational thinking suggests you first start by reducing power consumption in the home....

In North America, the power consumption by heating can amount to as high as 29% of the average households power bill in winter. In South Africa, it may be a bit less, depending on what region you live in but potentially MORE if your house is built in a thermally inefficient way and most houses over 10 years old ARE.
Keeping your house warm in winter while saving on electricity is all about maximizing efficiency and minimizing unnecessary heat loss.
Eco-Insulation refers to this as PASSIVE indoor climate control i.e. those that do not require electricity to keep the house war.
Here are some ideas:
1. Insulation. Proper insulation is key to retaining heat. Insulate walls, floors, and attics to prevent warm air from escaping. Building guidelines by specialists say that up to 35% of the heat in the home is lost through the roof.
Also - ensure your roof has a ceiling. Not having a ceiling is unhealthy and creates all kinds of damp problems anyway.
- Insulate between that ceiling and the roofing material up above.
- SInce another 25% can be lost through the walls of the building and up to 35% through the glass windows that's your next step.
- You can insulate the walls of your home and there are ways of doing that.
- If you feel a draft under your exterior doors, you're losing indoor heat. Adjust the gap so that it makes contact with the bottom of the door, or use a door "sweep".
- Seal up all possible drafts coming through opening windows using door/window strips.
- Floors - make sure you have a thick rug on top of tiled floors, so minimise the 10% of heat loss from going downwards. Some homes insulate UNDER the floorboards.
- Keep the doors closed! But do be careful if you have a gas or wood fire burning indoors - you need ventilation to keep the air breathable.
2. A building modification - double glazed windows - slow down the movement of heat (in and out of the room) a LOT.
3. *Fireplace draughts* - unused fireplace? Consider blocking this up - you can lose 10% of household heat this way.
4. Electric blanket - these use much less power than a standing heater in the bedroom.
5. Heat pump heating. If you have the money and you have done all the above, try this out. It uses much less power than conventional electrical heating or air conditioning.
6. Solar Heating: Given the abundant sunshine in many parts of Southern Africa, solar heating solutions are also a viable option.
Passive solar design in buildings can reduce the need for active heating, for example, clerestory windows high up under the eaves of the roof.
This is however a design intervention and will take capital to retrofit.

++ HOW DOES ECO-INSULATION WORK?++
With winter approaching fast, that's a question we gladly answer. Eco-Insulation is made from milled cellulose fibre, sourced from recycled newsprint and other printed matter. We treat it with a flame retardant and it complies with national standards and does not support fire in the roof. Our professional installers blow/ pump it into place and it gets spread across your celling or cavity.

Once it is properly installed, it traps a layer of air inside and slows down the movement of heat (or cold) across that layer.
We call it the *duvet* effect. Think of a giant duvet across your ceiling or up against the roof.

Think recycling and think about protecting the environment while ensuring you are snug and warm indoors this winter. The Eco-way.

GOOD NEWS - INTERNATIONAL SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY AND ECO@
The International Day of Forests fell on 21 March and while many South Africans were celebrating Human Rights Day, ECO-INSULATION Cellulose Fibre Ceiling Insulation also paused to celebrate the huge role that sustainable forestry has made on the ecological balance of our planet.

At Eco-Insulation, we are proud to share that at least 80% of our insulation product comes from recycled paper waste, that in turn comes originally from sustainable commercial cultivated forests. Not only that, it is recycled, ensuring the carbon stored inside the original wood pulp stays there and does not get released into the atmosphere by combustion or decomposition.

The next time you read the news in print, think of us and make sure your newspaper or magazine is recycled.

ECO-INSULATION: We turn yesterday's bad news into the good stuff.

+PROFESSIONALLY INSTALLED - A WORD ON SAFETY+

Working in the roof space above the ceiling can be hazardous. No worries. We've got you covered. That is confirmed by the many professional housing estate developers who use us. But the same standards we apply there also apply to the home owner.

In our experience, it is the casual contractor (without any training) of worse still the DIY home owner who is the most at risk. Accidents or inappropriate installations happen and in the end the customer suffers - for various reasons.
The risks are:
- Falling though the ceiling by treading on unsupported ceiling board.
- Exposure to dirt, including rodent dust and dander in the roof
- Exposure to the insulation product without using the necessary personal protection equipment (PPE)
- Exposure to illegally installed electrical cables or incorrectly laying down insulation on top of electrical downlighters.

That is why Eco-Insulation Cellulose Fibre Roofing Insulation installers are trained in the use of the correct personal protection equipment. Instead of crossing from one roof beam to another while working in the roof, our installers are trained to use gang planks and/or kneeling boards that bridge the gap to mitigate the risk of falling through into the room below.

They are also equipped with the required PPE to ensure they do their task without bodily harm while in the roof.

As a proud member of the Thermal Insulation Products and Systems Association of SA (TIPSASA) , we comply with the most recent standards. But we go further. It includes a neat, clean and SAFE installation.

We are proud to be holders of the TIPSASA "Product Compliance Certificate" - ask to see it when we come to you for your free quotation.

Give us a shout. (0)860 105 231

+++ IMPROVE YOUR ASSET VALUE AND SAVE MONEY EVERY MONTH +++
It's official. An investment in property is the best decision you can make in life, leaving you with an asset that will grow and grow in value as the market booms.

According to Statista.com, ever since the market crash in 2008 and 2009, the South African housing market has been growing. While lower than the levels experienced before the market crash, the house price growth has remained steady. And the respected Urban Real Estate Research Unit ( https://ebe.uct.ac.za/ureru ) also notes that, from the statistics given by StatsSA, the annual national property price increase in value over the past year was 2.6% with the Cape at 3.9%. What an amazing return on a hard asset.

So how do you improve your asset, increase its value, and save money at the same time? According to on the statistics viewed by Oobla Homeloans, loadshedding means more people are looking for energy-efficient homes with renewable power sources.

Energy efficiency also means less money spent on electricity keeping your place cool in summer and warm in winter. So add value to your home by installing Eco-Insulation Cellulose Fibre Roof Insulation in the home (or office) AND put cash back into your pocket..

For a simple investment of thousands, not tens of thousands, you can improve the value of your home and also save electricity and energy. That's a real win-win. On LinkedIn? See: https://bit.ly/3HDENqY

++ WHY GO RRR... ? +++

That means Recover, Recycle and Reuse, by the way!

That's when you support the planet by removing paper from landfill and reprocess it into a very useful and innovative product. By fitting Eco-Insulation Cellulose Fibre Roof Insulation into your building, you support the planet but also you support your home or office.
- You add a 4th R to the mix - the R-Value factor.

R-Value stands for Thermal Resistance and that is what Eco-Insulation does, in short. It is one of the best R-value boosts you can add to your roof, floor or walls and it stops the rapid transfer of summer heat into your home in summer (or the reverse in winter). All of this without switching the expensive air conditioner on!

So let's make a resolution to RRR... this year - support the planet - but also add the 4th R - the one for you, your family and co-workers if at work.

*** How to turn the home or office building into a cooler-box ***
The Thermal Insulation Products and Systems Association, TIPSASA, has produced a valuable infographic of how a building loses heat (in winter) or gains heat (in summer). The idea is that, if you keep the heat out, in summer, plus the doors and some windows closed, you can create this cool box effect and will be able to ease back on using the airconditioning. These are the 'leaky points' in your building that need insulation. That is where Eco-Insulation Cellulose Fibre Roof Insulation comes in. We retrofit this, literally air-pumped into the ceiling and cavities, closing down on the passage of heat - roof, walls and floor.
The summer result: A cooler home - passively. Minimise air conditioning or other electricity consuming 'active' methods. Let's hear it for the cooler box! . Find out how ... www.eco-insulation.co.za ... call us and get our free insulation guide and brochure.
