From a petrol attendant to an Admitted Attorney.

Meet - Siphenkosi Nqoro, inspirational Admitted Attorney, after completing his matric with outstanding results, he worked 12 hour night shifts as a petrol attendant while pursuing his LLB degree full-time at the University of Fort Hare.

"Law is something I have always wanted to do, and I promised myself that despite the odds, I'd always pursue my ambition."

"After high school, I needed to find paid work to help my unemployed parents," said Siphenkosi.

Siphenkosi started working as a full-time petrol attendant at a Shell garage in Mdantsane, because he knew his parents were struggling and he felt compelled to care for them.

But as time passed, he remembered the pledge he had made to himself that one day he would study law.

In 2016, Siphenkosi was admitted as a law student at the University of Fort Hare and he never looked back.

"I knew I would have to juggle my studies and work, so I had to talk to my work supervisor. He was glad to hear that I'll be attending university full-time, and he gave me permission to pursue the degree."

"I used to work the night shift, bathe and prepare for school, and then be expected to go to work again, but the garage staff was quite flexible. Sometimes I would approach my superiors and ask them to adapt my schedule, and they would do it gracefully," said Siphenkosi.

In 2017, he ran into difficulties with NSFAS, and received no finance, leaving him with a debt to the University. He had to work very hard to pay his debt before his degree certificate was released.

Against all odds, Siphenkosi Nqoro graduated with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in Law from the University of Fort Hare in 2021.

At age 21, she obtained a Master of Commerce (MCom) in Human Resources Management.

At age 23, she graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Industrial Psychology from North-West University, becoming the youngest female PhD holder in Africa.

Her PhD thesis passed without corrections and focused on The Management perspectives on a talent value proposition for academic staff in a South African Higher Education Institution.

Professor Musa is an Editorial Fellow at American Psychological Association, an Advisory Board Member at Women Power Africa, an Academic Editor at PLOS, and a Research Supervisor at STADIO Higher Education.

"Coming from a household where my parents have had to make so many sacrifices to ensure that my siblings and I got a better start to life has always compelled me to thrive as much as I can in all my endeavours. It is always important to remember that though pursuing success often entails significant struggle, if you commit to pushing through the barriers, it will only be temporary," said Prof Musawenkosi Donia Saurombe.

10 Benefits Of Graphic Design For Small Businesses

Every business needs a way to market its brand to reach consumers and gain sales, especially when the business is small and just starting out.

Because consumers continue to have access to just about every product there is, creativity is now considered a necessity in marketing as consumers become harder to impress.

There’s also an enormous amount of competition vying for the same market as your business does.

Graphic design plays a huge part in the creative realm of marketing and every type of business can reap its benefits, even the smallest ones.

But make no mistake, graphic design doesn’t just make your business look beautiful. The purpose of graphic design is to solve problems, may it be finding customers or increasing sales.

To start, here are some benefits of graphic design that can help small businesses:

1. It helps in building brand identity
Brand identity is the visual aspect of a brand. This includes logo, color, font choice, imagery, etc.

As it is the identity of your brand, your brand identity represents you and your entire business. So it’s important to come up with a well-designed one to get a good perception of your customers.

Because it mostly involves visuals, a well-designed brand identity can only be achieved through graphic design, which mainly revolves around the process of visual communication.

2. It gives your brand a personality
Putting artistic elements in your brand identity through custom graphic design can elevate the consumers’ perception of your product.

You can transform your brand from a boring and generic one to something that is friendlier, or funnier perhaps, that your consumers will connect to. This connection with your customers will give you an edge over your competitors.

3. It gives a great first impression
First impressions last, especially in small businesses.

Coming up with brand identity is like dressing up to look presentable to consumers. Since graphic design solves problems through proper visual communication, great use of it will leave a great impression on consumers and convert them to your own devoted customers.

4. It sets you apart from your competition
Because brand identity is how you present yourself to consumers, you don’t want to look like every other brand and be an average joe.

Graphic design will help you stand out because having a good foundation in graphic design will give you a trained eye on differentiating your brand from your competitors. It could be a change in color, coming up with a distinct logo, using different art styles, and so on.

5. It helps you reach your target market
Graphic design can adjust depending on the desired target market of your business.

You can make it look more neutral or generic to appeal to more people, broadening the scope of your target market. Or you can make it look more distinct to appeal to specific people instead, narrowing its scope.

6. It helps build brand awareness
Brand awareness is about how much your consumers recognize your brand.

This brand recognition will greatly impact their purchasing decisions and could make them stick to your brand. Graphic design can apply different design applications to your brand identity to make it more recognizable and memorable to your consumers.

7. It keeps your customers engaged
Customer engagement is important because it’s a way to get customer retention. Visual elements in the graphic design make customers interact with your brand more because it ensures that your brand catches their attention.

8. It helps your brand look professional
Applying great use of graphic design can make your business look like an expert in the field and make it look more reliable—even if you’re just a newly established business.

Graphic design solves problems in visual communication through clarity in arranging essential information so they’re easier to understand. It also shows that you put great attention in communicating with your customers, reflecting to your customers that you also put great attention to your products and/or services.

9. It helps you build trust and relationship with your customers
Having a reliable brand image will make customers trust your business more, making way for new customer relationships. Building customer relationships and keeping them engaged are great ways to develop their brand loyalty.

10. It’s a great persuasion tool
Since people’s perception of visual design can oftentimes be subjective, it can subtly manipulate consumers’ emotions, tell them what to do, etc. Graphic design can communicate to your consumers in a way that will make them pick your brand over a competitor through eye-catching imagery.
