discussed Law & Artificial Intelligence. He delved on the critical need for effective governance and accountability in AI integration within South Africa’s legal processes, while balancing innovation and economic opportunities. He highlighted specific AI applications identified as “No-Go Zones” due to their potential harm or discriminatory nature, such as predictive policing systems that may perpetuate racial biases. To hold companies accountable for AI system actions, Ndende suggested measures such as mandatory impact assessments, clear liability assignments, and rigorous compliance audits to address challenges in attributing responsibility and liabilities.
Adv Lerato Zikalala discussed Business and Human Rights and zoned on businesses in South Africa having a duty to respect human rights, guided by the progressive South African Constitution and international standards like the UN Guiding Principles and ILO Conventions. They must ensure fair labor practices, protect consumer rights, and minimize environmental impact. By aligning operations with both national laws and global human rights frameworks, companies not only comply with regulations but also promote a more equitable and just society…. This is one of those topics we were really looking forward to. 👌🏿👌🏿👌🏿
