You were woken up before your alarm by a child seeking comfort. Or maybe they were digging through the pantry after you told them not to 1000 times. Your coffee spilled before the first sip. Or maybe you sipped it and found it hours later...cold. You checked on a friend on social media and she posted about her amazing babysitter and a coffee date with her high school bestie. It stings to be stuck at home for the 4th day because you only have the one car or this kid has another fever from preschool or it's raining AGAIN.⁣

You're doing holy work, mama. Look up. No, not at the ceiling (where there's still marinara sauce from that one time). Look up at the eyes of Jesus. He's been watching you, hoping you'd look up at him and ask what he thinks of this day. He sees your heart. He hears the kindness in your voice when you wanted to snap. He notices the attempt you made at a quiet time this morning before the coffee spilled and everyone needed you at once. You are winning. You are doing the next right thing. Everything looks different from heaven.

Discipline does not mean beating, hurting or abusing a child, on the contrary, it means bringing and instilling respect, self respect and self control, amongst many other valuable values to your child. Godly respectful parenting teaches a child to own their mistakes, learn from them and grow into Godly, healthy well adjusted adults who can make a difference in the world.

Toddlerhood Transitions - 18m to 3yrs of age. This age group is possibly one of the busiest times of a moms life, both emotionally and physically. It is vital to continue laying the foundations of balance, in love and boundaries, because toddlers truly know just which buttons to push with mom and dad….and being one step ahead, parenting proactively can make all the difference to your relationship and your parenting pathway.

Such a valuable tool to use in your family with your spouse and children 🌸

Oh “self-control” … often a virtue we desire to see in and practiced by others, especially our children, but for me “Mom” … really!? This alone makes it worthwhile to allow the ‘fruit’ of self-control to flourish in our lives. How valuable spiritual discernment is for us as we persevere in training our children. As a mum helping them to exercise self-control and “pay attention to everything that goes on around you (see Training Tip below).” As a mom you are a trainer and encourager in the area of self-control. Whether you're establishing a feed/wake/sleep routine for your infant, or instructing your toddler in blanket time, self-control helps to see the ‘big picture.’ These seemingly small incremental steps of training are all part of beginning as you mean to go. Self-control is required in every area of life. As mom exercises ‘self-control’ in the training and instruction of her children, the same calm, gentle spirit will help in achieving a measure of ‘self-control’ in her child/children as well. Many skills in Proverbs only come through self-control; Proverbs 16:21b “pleasant speech increases learning” and Proverbs 15:1 “a soft or gentle answer turns away anger.” Remember, God has called you to the many roles you hold. He will empower and equip you to fulfill those roles. Yes, it all begins with us.… Press on …⁣⁣⁣

Indeed, a truth 🌸

Sometimes it's the most simple and obvious words that our kids need the most - the words we're sure they know. These simple phrases have the power to unlock things we didn't know our kids were struggling with, so be prepared to have the conversation door opened and for a sweet moment of connection to happen. Also, know that some kids will appear to shrug off these words, but deep down, they're finding roots in knowing that mom and dad are a safe place for them.

Saying sorry to our children when we step over the line, shows your child you’re human, and models to them that it’s understandable to make mistakes, but we need to take responsibility for our choices and actions.
