What a great event to start 2024 with
5km (well almost) Fun run and then a
700 m swim in Bass Lake in aid of the Betty's Bay Volunteer Community Fire Fighters
Funds are desperately needed to buy a new fire vehicle/ truck, as theirs had done its part over the years but needs to retire now.

Also bought myself a piece of land 😉

No fireworks allowed in Overstrand

Residents and visitors are yet again reminded that it is strictly forbidden to set off any fireworks and firecrackers in Overstrand Municipality’s area of jurisdiction - including beaches and public spaces.

In particular, we urge one and all to refrain from using Chinese lanterns since it is impossible to determine where they may end up and can, potentially, cause a veldfire that could pose a major threat to lives and livelihoods.

Likewise, anyone who sets of an emergency flare other than for the purpose it is intended for, will be prosecuted and will face a hefty fine, perhaps even jail time.

All shops and street vendors trading in the Overstrand are prohibited from stocking and/or selling fireworks. In the interest of keeping everyone safe and sound during the festive season, please report illegal trade in and setting off of fireworks to your nearest SAPS station or call Law Enforcement on 028 313 8996.

In case of an emergency, call the Fire & Rescue emergency number on 028 312 2400.

Our roster is full and the weather looks like it’s going to behave on Saturday, so lace up those shoes and let’s try run off some of that delicious Christmas lunch!

8:00am start time as usual at the magnificent Harold Porter National Botanical Garden. Please come at least 30 minutes before to get a good parking spot.

In addition to the usual Betty’s Bay parkrun, there is a nite run taking place at Harold Porter National Botanical Gardens on Saturday, 30 December starting at 7:30pm.

Note that this is NOT a parkrun event, you won’t get timed or qualify for Discovery points.

But don’t let that stop you! It’s going to be a unique and special experience - plus if you do the parkrun and the Nite run, you get to eat more Christmas cake! 🏃‍♂️

Crayfish season to start on Saturday

The 2023/24 West Coast Rock Lobster (WCRL) recreational fishing season will open on 16 December 2023, and fishing will be allowed as follows:

• 16 Dec (± low tide time 11:52)
• 17 Dec (± low tide time 12:42)
• 23 Dec (± low tide time 13:17)
• 24 Dec (± low tide time 14:05)
• 26 Dec (± low tide time 15:25)
• 27 Dec (± low tide time 16:00)
• 28 Dec (± low tide time 16:34)
• 29 Dec (± low tide time 11:03)
• 30 Dec (± low tide time 11:37)
• 31 Dec (± low tide time 12:12)
• 1 Jan (± low tide time 05:06)
• 1 April (± low tide time 13:36)

PLEASE NOTE:
• Fishing times for WCRL will be from 08:00 until 16:00 on the specified days.
• The bag limit is four per person, per day
• The size restriction is 80 millimetres carapace length.
• No person catching WCRL with a recreational fishing permit may sell his/her catch
• Any WCRL caught, collected or transported must be kept in a whole state.
• You have to have a valid license to go crayfish diving.
