We held a memorial service for Helen Fisher, who passed away suddenly two days before Christmas.

Helen was a dedicated member of the Costa da Gama Neighbourhood Watch, and was much loved and respected by the community.

My thoughts and prayers are with Helen's family and friends.

With the devastation caused by the fire in Hillview Heights, we need all hands on deck. Not cheap political shots. Last count is 141 structures.

On Saturday night, we had a hugely successful joint ops vehicle patrol through Ward 45 (Sunrise Boulevard, Costa da Gama, Vrygrond, Seawinds, Hillview) as well as Lavender Hill, Steenberg and Coniston Park. There were easily 50 cars in the patrol, and it was lovely seeing residents out on the streets appreciating the show of visibility. A huge thank you to SAPS Muizenberg and Steenberg, Muizenberg CPF, Law Enforcement, Metro Police, Conwatch, Hillview Guardians, Costa da Gama NW, Seawind NW, Walk Tall, Falcons NW and Community in Blue for the fantastic turnout. Many are volunteers who took their time out on a Saturday evening because they are passionate about securing our neighbourhoods, and fostering the relationships across the various neighbourhoods.

*City welcomes Santaco’s withdrawal of strike action* Statement by Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis The City of Cape Town is pleased that the destructive taxi strike has come to an end. We appreciate the constructive approach taken by minibus taxi association Santaco today. “It bears noting that Santaco today accepted the same proposal that the City of Cape Town and the Western Cape Government originally put on the table last Friday,” said Cape Town mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis. “The tragic implication is that all of the violence, the deplorable loss of life, and the damage to property and to our local economy – was for naught. Last Friday, everything agreed to today was on the table, when the strike was less than 24 hours old, and could have been stopped then.” The details of the agreement are: - Impoundments under the National Land Transportation Act (NLTA) will continue for vehicles driving without an operating license, or on the incorrect route, or without a driver’s license, or which are not roadworthy. - We have agreed that the Taxi Task Team will further define a list, within 14 days, of additional major offences in terms of which vehicles will continue to be impounded in future. This will take the form of an Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to guide enforcement staff on the exercise of the discretionary power provided for in the NLTA. - Our focus in the task team will be to ensure that all traffic offences which impact on commuter safety remain as major offences. Road safety for commuters and other road users is a non-negotiable, a position the City has not budged on. - The Task Team will similarly compile an agreed-upon list of minor offences, which do not have commuter safety implications, and which will not be impoundable. The City continues to believe it will be able to demonstrate to Santaco that we have already been following this distinction for some time. Importantly, if Santaco believes that any of their taxis have been impounde

Download the City App to get instant updates The City’s new App is in line with the vision of enhancing transparency and efficiency of operations by bringing services to the digital age. The app is a fantastic resource for news about the city, events, alerts on service disruptions, and significant links to the official website. ‘The application not only improved services to our customers but also pushed the City’s digital transformation goals by providing lessons which are being used wider in the City for the creation of future digital applications, including the new mobile app,’ said Ald Eddie Andrews, Deputy Mayor. An important video on what the City is doing about the sinkhole on Prince George Drive.

This shows the importance of recycling, showcasing the great work done by Mike's Recycling Workshop in Vrygrond.

Today I'm in Vrygrond volunteering for AfriPaw who, in collaboration with Tears, are doing amazing work with the residents and their pets. I'm a huge animal lover, so this organization is very close to my heart. So far this morning we've seen at least 50 dogs and cats come in to be dewormed, treated for ticks and fleas, and to receive medical treatment where necessary. They also receive food. It warms my heart to see how many residents love their pets! #CllrMandyMarr #Ward45
