*STATEMENT FOR STUDENT GRIEVANCES*

Greetings to the entire student populace, We hope this communique finds you well and in good spirit.

It is in our deepest desire to discourse this communique in hoping it will answer most of the your CONCERNS.

-For Report 191 (Nated), The issue of absent from exam has been resolved in the manner of all students that are affected by the ‘Absent From Exam,’ their results have been verified and loaded except for 5 students which are still under investigation.

-For NCV students, All students affected by the ‘Absent from Exam’ were submitted to DHET and the institution is hoping to receive the results as from tomorrow onwards.

-The issue concerning Text books is still underway as the top up of text books is still in process. In the meantime lectures should make copies to assist students without text books (this is just a temporary arrangement).

-Lecturer shortage - The issue of lecturers still remains a problem at the institution, however a new temporary strategy has been implemented to combat this issue up until the process of permanent employment of lectures is done and they should start working effectively on the 1st of March 2023. Meanwhile each campus has a set of lecturers which will assist in teaching those groups without lecturers. If ever you happen to be in group that does not have a lecturer and during that lesson/period you are not taught please contact the number given below for inquiries for SRC to make a follow up.

All residents should receive their meal allowances as from today or tomorrow as the College is still in the process of loading the meal Allowance.

As per the engagement with the Financial Aid Officers, the College has submitted the first batch of registration data and students should receive their Allowances starting at the end of this Month.

Kind regards

From: Buffalo City TVET College SRC
To: Buffalo City TVET College Trimester Students
Date 08 September 2022

For Immediate Attention‼️

Greetings BCC students

It is with great dissatisfaction that up until today we still have trimester students who have not yet received their results. We want to assure you that we are closely looking to this matter. As you should know that these results are not directly held by the institution but the Department of Higher Education on evident irregularities in some of the scripts of candidates which resulted to the department holding an investigation on these irregularities however not only Buffalo City Tvet College has been affected by this matter but a number of other Tvet Colleges.

After a direct confrontation with the Deputy Principal of Academics we were made aware that DHET had promised to disburse these results on the 5th of September 2022, however that still has not been fulfilled. We understand this is a frustrating mater to the affected students and also to us as SRC hence it is a matter of high priority. Changes and new developments in this situation will be communicated.

TO: EASTERN CAPE TVET COLLEGE SRCs AND STUDENTS

FROM: SATVETSA PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE.

DATE: 02 SEPTEMBER 2022.

SUBJECT: NSFAS DIRECT PAYMENTS.

Greetings to the student populace of the Eastern Cape.

On the 2nd of September 2022, SATVETSA National Executive Committee inclusive of all Provincial Chairpersons had a virtual meeting with NSFAS with regards to what students have been crying about which is DIRECT PAYMENTS.

The meeting has then resolved the following:

Since NSFAS wallet payments have experienced fraud with hijacking identifications, this has resulted in a vulnerable NSFAS beneficiary with an outcome of negative effect on beneficiary money management. It was then decided that NSFAS must implement the beneficiary-centered model, and as such the allowances are expected to follow the NSFAS beneficiary. Mastercards will be issued to support beneficiaries to secure receiving their allowances.

This means direct disbursement of allowances into the bank account of NSFAS funded beneficiaries. NSFAS will release this solution with a set number of beneficiaries first, following which the full roll-out will occur in a phased approach. Which means that at the end, students will then receive their allowances and do transactions through the Mastercard Direct Payment Program. All beneficiaries will have to complete visibility of all transactions and balances via different approved platforms which are preferably (online, mobile application and USSD).

Please also note that this new solution:

1. Beneficiaries will get to enjoy the convenience of cash access.

2. Withdraw cash from any ATM and selected retail stores

3. Make online transactions and purchases

4. Perform EFTs transactions and with an own virtual card with a ‘Tap to Pay’ functionality that can be used in local payment apps such as Apple pay and Samsung pay.

5. Receive sms each time a transaction is carried out via their account

6. The card will be pin enabled which will make it difficult for non-owners to use fraudulently.

7. You will set your own limit.

8. If you put in your pin incorrectly 3 times, it will be blocked.

9. Normal banking charges will apply.

The new service providers will then visit their allocated TVET colleges and SRCs for activities. Handing out the cards and information packs to the selected beneficiaries and giving more information about this journey we are about to take.

NSFAS has also noted the shortage of allowances and will communicate in time after they are done with their consultations.

SATVETSA would like to take this opportunity to applaud and appreciate student’s patience when it was fashionable to do so with regards to their allowances.

From: Buffalo City Tvet College SRC
To: Buffalo City Tvet College Students
Date: 18 August 2022

For immediate attention‼️

Good Afternoon leaders✊

It is with great disappointment and agitated souls that we find ourselves having to come and consult to you about the issue regarding to iFreshers Braai. As you all know that this upcoming weekend we were supposed to be hosting Freshers Braai, however our Student support services is failing us in this regard to postponing this event. We are seeing this as a sabotage towards the SRC, so that it can not fulfill its objectives and therefore be failures of student community of BCC. The reason we say this is because:

It is through our Student support services that we arrived at the date of 20th August 2022. Because the date that was presented to them by the SRC was 30th July 2020, we agreed towards that date because atleast if it’s coming from their side that means everything will work out perfectly.
It is through our student support services that we received a go ahead to publish and put out posters for the Freshers Braai, with 100% assurance that it will indeed happen this weekend.

The main reason for this postponement as they say is because of meeting committees that could not sit because of unavailability of people due to special leaves. These meetings are the ones which select a service provider that wins a tender to organise the Freshers Braai together with the help of the SRC and Students. What makes us more agitated and angry about this is that they are not giving us a clear direction regarding the next step which is a next date, and also bringing into context that our academic calendar is starting to be hectic as we will be starting with exam soon. So we wanted to get done with Freshers Braai so that students can fully focus on their academics

In due course a statement will be released by the SRC on further developments of the Freshers Braai.

We sincerely apologise to the student community of Buffalo City Tvet College and The Fresher’s Braai will indeed happen raining or not that we say without fear or favour.

Thank you.
