The best practice for me when negotiating with sponsors is to talk to them and find out what they expect from the relationship, see how that aligns with the goals and objectives of the event, and then work on a special package that suits both parties!

Expectation management is a key factor in the event planning process. The client has a certain picture of the upcoming event and does not always understand the challenges an event planner has to overcome to give them this picture. Budget constraints, venue limitations, and other factors are important considerations and it is important to manage these expectations before getting to the venue and starting the build-up. Be sure to point out to the client what can be done and what not - and explain the reasons why some elements can not be provided. This will prevent unnecessary unhappiness and stress on site.

Communication with your team is so important! When arrangements are made for access, catering, or parking everyone in the team should be updated so that they can assist with the smooth running of your event. All it takes is a quick team briefing at the end of the day and then in the morning (if there were any last-minute changes). An informed team helps create a good visitor experience and builds your brand as a successful and competent event manager.

Had a wonderful experience at the Dutch Innovation event yesterday! Creative event with an awesome team - well done to the Sustainable Events Company. Most of these images were taken during build up as we were quite busy - but wow! This came together quite nicely.

Cars in the Park has been a part of my family - for many years this was a regular date we had with friends. We looked at the cars and then we had a braai. Time has moved on and friends have moved away - but it was still nice to again visit Cars in the Park. What a good turnout after COVID-19! And congratulations on hosting a 40th event - well done, team!
