We are honored to be the sanctuary that gave rhino mama, Malala, a second chance at life. She was shot by poachers and Rhino 911 kindly gave her to our reserve to heal and now thrive. Malala has birthed a boy and we are over the moon excited. β€οΈπ¦
ABOUT ERC: Across Africa, rhinos are fighting for survival against the brutality of poaching. ERC combats the war on rhinos by funding anti-poaching units, conservationists, veterinarians and air support teams who struggle every day to fight for the rhino's survival. We are laser focused on ensuring their protection (and population increase) under the severe threat of extinction. If we counter every atrocity with a proactive move to protect these gentle giants, we will slowly win the battle to save rhinos. Donate at: www.endangeredrhino.org/donate

Amazing news from South Africa! Malala π¦ had a baby boy!π Sweet Chilli is the proud first time father, which is great for strengthening rhino genetics.
Malala arrived on our reserve 2 years ago when she was severely traumatized after a poaching incident (on another reserve) where she was shot and wounded.
Our reserve has become her safe haven and we are over the moon with the birth of her new baby boy (yet to be named).π
Malala met up with Jodi and her new baby, Rex, for a baby boy play date. These really are the moments we live for.π
Join our private FB group Mankwe Wildlife Reserve to see the adorable videos.
In lieu of baby gifts, we are requesting donations to help fund our 24/7 anti-poaching patrols to protect all newborns and adults.

Meet baby rhino Rowan! π
Rowan the rhino was named for Rowan the newborn human who entered the world with a fierce determination, battling for every breath. After spending 14 days in the NICU, he finally emerged, a testament to his resilience. With loving and protective parents by his side, both human and rhino, Rowan is destined to flourish into a formidable leader.
We know that someday heβll meet the rhino who inspired him during his earliest days, a moment that will surely be filled with gratitude and connection.

The most beautiful sunset to end 2023. This year has been a year of rebuilding. We have been so blessed in so many ways. Our camps have been full of students and volunteers, we have celebrated the birth of rhino calves, we have had good rains so there are wildlife babies everywhere and most importantly we have a strong dedicated team.
2024 is going to be even busier than this year and we cannot wait to meet new volunteers and students and welcome back old friends.
Tonight we are all out patrolling with 12 dogs and all boots on the ground to protect the rhinos. The fireworks are going off outside the reserve and every bang is a terrible reminder of 2021. Please pray for not only our rhino but rhino everywhere.
We love our Rhino family and thank you for your incredible support in 2023. π¦π
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! π¦πWe wish you and your loved ones a blessed Christmas and joyous festive season.
As we reflect on the year, we are humbled by the support, prayers, and generosity you have given us through every season. We would not be here and making the difference our world needs without your steady and consistent partnership to protect rhinos from extinction.
May you and your family have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful year to come. β€οΈ

βOnly if we understand can we care. Only is we care will we help. Only if we help shall all be savedβ - Dr. Jane Goodall
Ecotourism is about uniting conservation, communities and sustainable travel. It can generate revenue for conservation efforts, which can be used to maintain and restore habitats and protect wildlife from poachers. It can help raise awareness about the importance of protecting wildlife & their habitats as well as providing opportunities for scientific research and monitoring of wildlife populations. Furthermore, ecotourism can provide huge economic benefits to local communities which not only reduces poverty and improve standards of living but in turn empowers communities to protect their wildlife.
The only thing standing between these gentle giants and extinction are the people who choose to fight for them.
Today on we honor the true heroes. Rhinos who can't understand why they can no longer wonder freely because man wants to kill them for the keratin their horn is made from.
Rhino calves that watch traumatized as their mothers are butchered alive.
Rhino custodians that carry on every day with the memories of the atrocities they have witnessed.
Rangers and anti-poaching scouts who work tirelessly in all conditions to do their best to protect the few rhinos that remain.
Every year the numbers of rhinos dwindle so today we salute those that continue to fight for them but most of all today is about appreciating the beauty of rhino. Every day spent with them is a privilege.
Thank you to everyone that has joined our fight and have helped us keep our little family safe π

South Africa is home to the largest population of rhinos in the world and is an incredibly important country for rhino conservation. From 2007-2014 the country experienced an exponential rise in rhino poaching β a growth of more than 9,000% (savetherhino.org).
Due to trade laws enforced by C.I.T.E.S., an illegal black market has spiked the price of rhino horn, making it the most expensive commodity in the world. Because it is more valuable than gold or co***ne, poaching syndicates and kingpins from around the world will go to any lengths to secure a kilogram of rhino horn.
The conservation war is a human warβwith human casualties. Wildlife rangers are faced with heavily armed and highly organised poaching gangs β according to current global statistics, two rangers lose their lives in the line of duty every week.
The Anti Poaching Unit (APU) at Endangered Rhino Conservation (ERC), who work tirelessly to protect rhinos based on a private wildlife reserve in the North West Province in South Africa are in desperate need of 11 stab proof vests.
The reserve was targeted by poachers in 2014 and 2021, resulting in the torturous killing of 5 rhino, including a 4 month old calf. Adding to that death toll, the attack resulted in the reserve losing an unborn calf and saw the reserve's dominant bull shot and although survived, faced months of gruesome treatment.
This GoFundMe page has been created to raise vital funds to ensure the safety of the APU, who patrol the reserve on foot every night, risking their life for the rhinos and wildlife alike who are severely threatened by poachers.

This mum & calf had to be relocated to the reserve ERC supports as a result of a poaching attack which saw 9 rhino brutally killed. It is so nice to see them not just surviving but thriving.
It has got to the point where private owners have no other choice but to give up their fight. People are being torn between the emotional and financial strain which comes with being rhino owners, as well as the safety implications involved.
Thanks for the πΈ !
Swipe to see the aftermath! β οΈPoor Sweet Chilli came off a little worse for wear the day he and Willis went up against each other. Although it doesnβt look nice, these are just superficial wounds and apart from Sweet Chilliβs pride, it is nothing to worry about.
Thereβs something so humbling watching these magnificent creatures and observing this particular behaviour.
The bond between handler and dog is a force to be reckoned with. Admirable and courageous come to mind.
A sigh of relief after the recent full moon.
As many of you know, the full moon floods fear into reserves across the African continent. Thoughts are with those who lost their life this recent full moon, and the people protecting them. And prayers for the safety of the remaining π
Thank you to every person and animal on the front line of this bloody war π

SAVING RHINOS FROM EXTINCTION
βOnce you have touched a rhino you will never stop fighting for them.β
Endangered Rhino Conservation (ERC) is a ground led organization in South Africa that combats the war on rhinos by assisting anti-poaching teams, conservationists, veterinarians and air support teams who struggle every day for the rhinoβs survival.
In 2014, tragedy stuck when we sadly lost five of our beloved rhinos to poaching. This accelerated the difficult decision to trim (de-horn) all rhino as part of our strategy to preserve the species. Trimming is an annual event since the horn grows back, similar to our fingernails and hair. By trimming horns, we give rhinos an 85% better change at life.
We believe in a story of hope for rhinos, where conservationists and individuals can roll up their sleeves and do something positive for a species that cannot speak for themselves and cannot protect themselves from greed, corruption and abject lunacy.
