Being aware of your pulse is important as it may indicate an abnormal heart rate or rhythm. Your heart rhythm is normally controlled by a natural pacemaker in your heart, the sinus node. The sinus node is located in the right atrium and produces electrical impulses to start each heart rate. An arrhythmia occurs when something goes wrong with these electrical impulses in the heart and should be medically investigated. Monitor your heart rate and rhythm. Listen to your heart - it can save your Life. Knowing what a normal heart beat, (otherwise known as a pulse or heart rate) is can help you detect arrhythmias. An arrhythmia is an irregular or abnormal heart beat and can be present even without any symptoms. Checking your pulse regularly will help you to recognize abnormalities in your heart rate and thus, rhythm. Be wise, don't let disease hide in disguise.

This 7 minute workout packs in a full body exercise routine in a fraction of the time.
It is a short, rapid burst of activity also known as HIIT that uses body weight. If you are a beginner & not a regular exercise, this routine would certainly not be the one to start out with immediately. Seek advice on getting your body into shape and getting fitter. However, if you want to try it out begin with 3/4 of the exercises and add on as you feel a bit more stronger and comfortable.
This program consists of 12 exercises, 30 seconds each that is long enough to get in about 15 reps and 10 seconds rest between sets.

HIIT has been proven to improve cardiovascular fitness, decrease body fat, improve strength and endurance. With HIIT you need to focus on getting your intensity to a 9 on a 1-10 scale during intense intervals and giving your body time to recover adequately during rest cycles.

Cardiac health is an essential component to a healthy body. Often we hear about heart rate and blood pressure and how this directly relates to your hearts health, we may be aware of what our blood pressure is but do you know why these two particular measurements are so important?

Blood pressure and heart rate, show how well your heart is working to pump blood throughout our body and how efficient oxygen is transported during and after exercise.

💥BLOOD PRESSURE 💥
The force that drives the movement of blood through the blood vessels.
BP is expressed as fraction, e.g. 120/80 mm Hg.
The top number (also know as systolic pressure) is the pressure your ❤️ exerts while beating and pumping blood out to organs and tissues.
The bottom number (diastolic pressure) is the pressure remaining in the artery wall as your ❤️ rests between contractions.

Blood pressure Range
> Normal: Slow pulse- also known as BRADYCARDIA is a pulse lower than 60 bpm
> Fast pulse- TACHYCARDIA is a pulse higher than 100 bpm

Heart rate can be easily taken by finding your pulse on your wrist or neck and counting the number of beats in 1 min.

Keep your heart happy & strong
Make good lifestyle choices and live a better tomorrow. Have a hearty week ahead 🤸🏻‍♂️

How do we keep our lungs happy and healthy?
Well, of course by exercise.
As much as we associate physical activity with a healthy heart, weight loss or even a decrease risk of diseases/comorbidities i.e. diabetes or hypertension, exercise positively benefits both the lungs and the heart respectively.
In order to achieve a healthy heart and lungs, one should exercise 3-4 x per week for 30 min @ a moderate intensity.🏃🏻‍♀️

Any form of physical activity requires good blood circulation, good oxygen uptake (correct breathing pre & post training) whether it be at rest, running, or even doing weighted exercises.

Breathing plays an essential role in correct uptake of oxygen by the lungs for the body to provide energy to use up during activity, expelling waste/carbon dioxide when energy is produced and the oxygen supplied to the body via the bloodstream is pumped by the heart to muscles that require it for movement.

📍An example of correctly executing breathing.
When teaching our patients how to recruit abdominal muscles we ask patients to pull the belly button in towards the bed (this creates a flat surface on the back for that slight arch that is formed in the lower back). When breathing in or taking in air- the tummy should be deflated and when exhaling or expelling air the tummy goes in.

Functional movement is the absolute basis of human locomotion. First and foremost breathing is the most essential in any exercise, squatting, transitioning from lying down to standing up, reaching overhead, pushing up and rotation.

Functional movement are multi-joint movements that requires good coordination of your body.
It enhances stability, mobility, flexibility and strength thus improving motor control.

When assessing body biomechanics we screen 7 movements :
1. Squat
2. Hip hinge
3. Gait
4. Twist
5. Pull
6. Push
7. Lunge

These movements assist us in screening technique, muscle weakness, posture, compensation and any stability or mobility issues that could arise from the ankles, knees or hips.

Move well. Move often.
