Bart Eksteen - Road to Recovery

On Sunday the 27th of October 2019 Bart survived a major stroke. He lost his mobility and eyesight.

We did everything humanly possible during the past 11 weeks to help Bart heal after his brain bleed. With very little funds for professional help, we pushed forward. The first 90 days after recovery of a stroke are referred to as the 'golden period'. This phase is considered extremely important in the complete rehabilitation of a patient since most of the neurological recovery happens during this time. Please do not stop praying for this remarkable man. We will continue vigorously on this therapy road we started with him - and continue to believe in miracles.

Hierdie naweek se uidaging maak my skoon benoud. Bart wil weer begin bestuur. Dokters sê almal "no freakin’ way", 6 maande is die vroegste om net daaraan te d**k om weer die wiel te vat. Ons is nou eers by 2 maande en 3 dae. Ek kry sommer hartkloppings as ek net daaraan d**k. Hou hierdie spasie dop vir 'n video of twee. - Barbie

With this system, we will teach Bart's brain how to use his left side to the best of his ability. (We pray for full recovery!😉) The system works with multiple repetitions of certain movements to 'rewire' his brain. With electronic impulses the hand and arm learn how to function normally. Repetition is key in rehabilitation after a stroke. The 'glove' contracts and relaxes the hand and arm multiple times preventing the brain to "forget" the left side of the body. The system is expensive but worth every penny. Thank you to each and every donor that helps us to reach our goal in Bart's healing journey!

Hierdie ysterman is 'n inspirasie.

Bart chose to help others that also need to recover and adapt to the changes stroke made to their lives. With the right therapy and positive attitude, patients can turn their lives around and lead a full and happy life. Depression is a huge drawback during recovery. Expect a lot of tears and outbursts during the first couple of weeks. As the patient’s abilities improve, so does the emotional mood. Sometimes a patient just needs a shoulder or a quiet listener while they vent. Invest in a good trauma counselor and physiotherapist, be vigilant with medications and above all, let the patient do as much as possible for himself. 𝑰𝒏 𝒐𝒓𝒅𝒆𝒓 𝒕𝒐 “𝒓𝒆𝒘𝒊𝒓𝒆” 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒊𝒏, 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅 𝒕𝒐 𝒅𝒐 𝒉𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒓𝒆𝒑𝒆𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝒆𝒙𝒆𝒓𝒄𝒊𝒔𝒆𝒔 𝒅𝒂𝒊𝒍𝒚. It will not be easy every day. Do it anyway. 🙃

Bart survived a brain hemorrhage on the 27th of October 2019. A brain hemorrhage is a type of stroke. It's caused by an artery in the brain bursting and causing localized bleeding in the surrounding tissues. ... Hemorrhage literally means "blood bursting forth." Brain hemorrhages are also called cerebral hemorrhages, intracranial hemorrhages, or intracerebral hemorrhages.

If a patient survives the initial event of an intracranial hemorrhage, recovery may take many months. Among the 25% of people who survive an intracerebral hemorrhage, many experiences a major improvement in their symptoms as their bodies naturally and gradually reabsorb the clotted blood within the brain. Among those who survive a bleeding aneurysm, about 50% suffer long-term neurological problems. (𝘙𝘦𝘧: 𝘔𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘊𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘪𝘤)
