Rhino Repro
We will try to ensure the indefinite survival of white and black rhino through ground breaking assist
Did you know that white rhino have a hard ridge on the inside of their bottom lip that helps them cut/ tear grass?
Because its not always rhino.
The Rhino Repro team working on an elephant cow. Always learning and gaining experience so that we can eventually do oocyte pick-up (OPU) and assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in elephant.
Special thanks to Dr Shaun Beverly, Lammermoor Veterinary Clinic and Dinokeng Reserve.
Who are we?
Yes, we've been quiet, but we've been really busy too. Learning every day, sharing knowledge, making a difference.

In our latest newsletter you can read about a clever way of how furry (and feathery) animals stay warm; pilo-erection! We discuss the interesting week we had wit Dr Morné de la Rey from Rhino Repro, who examined and treated several rhinos who never had calved before. Lastly, we often get the question, are you as a famer/farm-manager allowed to even touch a crime scene? We hope we can give you a clear answer in our article! We hope you enjoy the newsletter!

5 years ago today marked a remarkable day in our lives. Not only did we say goodbye to the gentle giant Sudan, but it started our journey at Rhino Repro.
This day was extremely difficult. The last male, Northern White Rhino, exhaled his last breath. This was the day we committed to do everything we can to use all means of assisted reproduction techniques (ARTs) to save Northern and Southern White Rhinos.
We have come a long way already with many battles we have won and achievements reached. We have not yet won the war but will never give up!!
Thank you to all our supporters and followers. We enjoy the journey with you and hope to have great success in the not to distant future. Hopefully with all of you to experience the successes with us all.

Rhino Repro 6 September 2022:
Our new probe is performing above and beyond. Today we retrieved 14 and 13 oocytes from Mafunyane 1 and Zoe respectively..... and nowhere other than at ALZU. Yes the rhino we always see on the way to Kruger Park.
This is a smashing new record for for collecting rhino oocytes on a day. Previously was 22.
I thank Mr Paul du Toit and the ALZU team for inviting us and all the help. Also a huge thanks to Dr Douw Grobler and Sr Li-Anne Grobler for arranging it and the super anesthesia!!
What is more important is that Zoe hasn't had a calf and is 13 years old. On examination we also found 2 huge cysts on her ovaries!!! With the OPU procedure we could remove the cysts, retrieve eggs and hopefully have treated her to fall pregnant. We will keep you posted!!
Carla said that already 9 oocytes matured and done an ICSI (s***m injection) on them..... and now we pray for cleavage and more progress/success.
Please support our cause and please feel free to forward/share our work!!! Instagram:
