MEET LAURIANA 🌸

I met Laurie at an art exhibition in Sea Point last year and we just clicked. She is a professional artist who recently moved to Cape Town from KZN.

At the time I had already asked the various artists who would be painting the with me and all 12 portraits were spoken for… but Then, earlier this year, due to unforeseen health problems one of the artist could not paint her portrait so I immediately contacted Laurie to ask if she wanted to paint Irma - and she said YES! 🎉

I just want to honour her for her willingness to be part of a project she knew nothing about, with people she never met, to support a beautiful cause where we honour and celebrate ordinary extraordinary women for just being who they are, where they are 🌸

Thank you for following this journey with us and supporting us in this new season of growth 🌿

This is how this one turned out.

It’s not a pretty picture.

And most of you may not like it.

Plus it probably perfectly ruins the look of my story’s grid…

…but that’s okay…

…it’s a work of expression…

…my emotional reaction to the world around me…inspired by the “scarred earth” scene you’ll find in the last pic that I photographed whilst out hiking the other day…

…and that’s what make me come alive as an artist!

Sometimes the struggle is real and you just have to reach for some spray paint! 🤣

“Everyone needs a place to retreat; a spot where the world grows quiet enough for the soul to speak.”
- Angie Wieland-Crosby

This one’s still very much a work in progress, but I’m gonna be out the country for a bit, so you won’t see any updates on my studio progress for the next little while…in the meantime, wishing you all beautiful pockets of quietness where your souls are refreshed, restored and renewed!

Relishing being in my happy place…
…every image I paint tells a story and is a reminder to me of the beauty that is to be found in this world, despite its brokenness and pain…

“You can be cautious or you can be creative, but there’s no such thing as a cautious creative.” – George Lois

Art director and designer turned author, George Lois is most famous for designing almost 100 iconic magazine covers for Esquire between 1962 and 1973.
In one of his most famous quotes about creativity of all time, Lois reminds us that we must get messy and break some rules when exerting creative effort.

Lois goes so far as to say that caution isn’t an aspect of creativity.
When faced with a conflict of ideas, throw caution to the wind and do something out of the ordinary.

I rather like that…thanks to:
