Vincent Tshabalala Education Trust Leadership Festival

Opening Day

We opened the Festival at the Alexandra Museum in Alexandra. We wanted our students to acquire knowledge of history that will enable them to reflect upon the environment that produced them and shaped Vincent ‘Toivo’ Tshabalala. This served to understand the man and have pride in his epic achievement. Wresting with his legacy gave them an opportunity to shape their own history. Mr Motlhamme gave us an insight into the dynamic interplay between Vincent Tshabalala’s uniqueness and community accountability.

This year marks the inaugural Vincent Tshabalala Leadership Festival. It is an occasion to build on 15 years of community service. One of our lessons from Vincent Tshabalala is that when you empower youth to become self-assured and to engage their own agency there may be a stage in the process where they become even more productive, effective and innovative.

The Festival is an opportunity for young people to explore the dynamics of productive dialogue and the role it plays in non-violent conflict resolution, democratic process and knowledge production.
