IN CASE YOU WERE WONDERING WHERE WE ARE...
Hello, Humans. We hope this update finds you all doing well, despite all the turbulence in the world. Our page has been quiet since last year, and we wanted to pop you this message so that you know what's been happening.

Roxy and Dimitri have emigrated to Portugal, along with their precious Frenchie kids. Given all the planning and stress around the move, they have been focused on this big transition. Roxy has also been battling with her health - and as determined and feisty as she is, she needs to take it slow for a while. However, know that her heart is still firmly in SA and her gifts and talents are still firmly rooted in the quest to make a difference.

Harvey's story, from start to finish, demonstrated the enormous power of community, kinship and love. It touched all our lives, and showed us that the world is still a beautiful place despite loss, heartache and tragedy. We want to continue to build on the lessons learned, the networks built, and the potential we all have.

Please be sure to pop in here from time to time. Roxy will be back as soon as she is able to bring her usual 'fire' back to the cause.

With all our love, and best wishes to you all.

THANK YOU to our incredible community for pulling through once again and helping us raise almost 6000kg of dog food to assist The Dogs Trust & the furry friends of Diepsloot township.

With your donations, we were able to purchase dog food as well as help assist The Dogs Trust in paying a small portion of their extremely large kennel bill. Lee, Ben & her team are angels on earth. The work they do on the ground every single day in Diepsloot Township is incredible and without them and YOU, OUR COMMUNITY assisting us, these furry friends would have absolutely no one.

A huge and special thank you to every single person that donated. Thank you Newton Wilshare, Dale & Nicole Strime, Debbie Ferreira, Juliet Stanton, Robyn, Anita De Sousa and so many more that made anonymous donations that we don't have your names to list here. Thank you once again to Wendy & Puppify - Online Pet Store & Mobile Grooming for always assisting us with dog food and getting behind us in everything we do, your team is amazing!

The gratitude, love and appreciation we have for your unwavering support is unparalleled to anything we have ever experienced. We appreciate you all.

UNITED FOR FURRY FRIENDS IN LOVE & HOPE

A PLEA FOR DOG FOOD!

Today we witnessed first hand with The Dogs Trust the complete helplessness and desperation of the furry babies and humans in Diepsloot township. The people are kind and love their animals but just do not have the resources to feed their dogs.

THIS IS A PLEA OF COMPLETE DESPERATION FROM US! Please help us get food for these deserving babies who have absolutely nothing! I know these pictures might be triggering to some but this is the reality of Diepsloot township. We need to collect as much food as possible, as quickly as possible. If you would like to donate a bag / tin of food please inbox us and we can arrange to meet, alternatively you can make a cash donate and we will purchase food (please use reference: DIEPSLOOT). Details are as follows:

Calling all animal lovers! With Diwali & Guy Fawkes happening this week, we ask that everyone be extra cautious and go the extra mile in looking after your furry friends. Here are a bunch of tips to help your animals through tomorrow and this coming weekend.

Last year we recorded the highest volume of missing and lost dogs due to the Diwali / Guy Fawkes weekend. It is so important that you keep your furry children inside and do everything possible to look after their well-being. Please help us spread this information far and wide, to hopefully save the animals we love so much from a lot of stress and anxiety.

United in LOVE & HOPE always for furry friends across South Africa.

I just wanted to pop onto Facebook and say thank you to everyone for your continued love and support. I am sorry that we have been so quiet the last few months. After getting covid really badly, it has been a tough last few months of recovery and I had to take some time out to feel more normal again.

I wanted to give everyone a quick update. We are working super hard on new educational tools. We are also so excited to confirm that we will be doing a big Christmas vaccination and food drive for the underprivileged animals of Diepsloot Township again this year. Keep posted for details in the coming weeks.

Looking at pictures of our special Harvey boy still breaks my heart into a million pieces, there is not a day that goes by that we do not miss him. However this foundation built in his honour, has filled our lives with so much purpose and love. We feel so blessed that through tragedy something so beautiful was born. Thank you all for being apart of this journey with us.

XOXO

Roxy

a HUGE 'PAWSOME' THANK YOU to Reddam House Waterfall and their amazing staff, parents & students!

We got a phone call this week from the amazing humans at Reddam House Waterfall, telling us that they have been doing a food and blanket drive for Harveys beacon of light foundation.

Out of the kindest and generosity of their hearts, they chose to support our foundation. I couldn't believe my eyes when arriving at their school this morning, at the amount of food and blankets they had collected for us.

It's hard not to get emotional thinking that a year ago this month we started this foundation in honour of our special Harvey in heaven and because of him, we have been able to meet so many incredible humans and organisations, that assist and cheer us on with so much love.

This donation will be going to assist Soweto Animal Rescue & Advisory Centre who do such important and incredible work.

Thank you to each and every amazing human that has supported our foundation. We miss Harvey every single day but the love and community created because of him have helped our hearts heal.

United in LOVE and HOPE we can change animal's lives.

WE DID IT AGAIN!

We would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to our incredible community who once again has blown us away with your incredible generosity and love.

We were able to collect and purchase with your donations over 500kg of dog food, blankets, dog toys, and beds to help Claudine & her outstanding organisation PawsRehoming.

Thank you to every person who contributed; King Edward VII School (KEPS) primary school, Ainsley & everyone at BodyBeat Gym, Villioti Fashion Institute, Noreen Marks, Isabella Lagrange, Saihania, Dale & Nicole Strime, Dieter & Cecilia Lehmann, Ridhima, Marisa, Julia Stanton, bearer of good news, Chloe Frampton, George and so many more anonymous donations that we don’t have names of. Without your love and compassion non of this would be possible.

A very special thank you to Wendy & Puppify - Online Pet Store & Mobile Grooming for your continued support of our foundation. We couldn’t do it without you.

It's been just over a year since Harvey's passing and we can't help but feel proud, that through tragedy we have been able to do so much good together and have met such amazing humans along the way.

AT THIS DARK TIME, WE REMEMBER OUR POWER & POTENTIAL
Amidst the protests battering our country, we look back ONE YEAR AGO and REMEMBER THE BEAUTIFUL THINGS we are capable of when we COME TOGETHER IN LOVE. We dug up some of the pics of ALL OF YOU RALLYING IN A SEARCH EFFORT to find Harvey in July 2020 - and although our search ended tragically, JUST LOOK AT WHAT WE DID? We came together from all walks of life, and from different parts of South Africa (even the world), to look for a precious furry family member. We witnessed and experienced an outpouring of care, concern, support and commitment, that was REMARKABLE and PHENOMENAL. It is something we will never, ever forget. And we know that, in this testing time for our country, WE CAN DO IT AGAIN. All we need to do is lead from a place of LOVE, and look to HELP, to HEAL, to BUILD and to DIFFUSE.

Let's not allow the forces that are bent on ripping us apart, to succeed. Wherever you are able, please shine your LIGHT. Our country, and our people, need it now more than ever.

THE NORTHCLIFF MELVILLE TIMES SUPPORTS OUR DRIVE!
A BIG THANK YOU to the team at the Northcliff Melville Times for always supporting our efforts, and raising awareness re our current FOOD and BLANKET DRIVE for PAWS REHOMING (JHB East Rand). We ask you to PLEASE SUPPORT OUR CAMPAIGN.

The animals in the informal settlements in the areas targeted by Claudine from PAWS REHOMING, live hard lives - often exposed to the elements, and often without the benefit of decent, regular food. YOUR GIVING and YOUR KINDNESS can go a long way towards blessing the lives of those who cannot speak for themselves.

FOOD and BLANKETS save and bless lives. If you would like to donate a blanket or food, we've organised different drop off points across Joburg, Pretoria & Centurion. Please message us directly for details.

Alternatively, you can make a donation of as little as R50. We will be making a bulk purchase via Puppify - Online Pet Store & Mobile Grooming - who has generously offered to help us.

Happy Birthday in Heaven our special Harvey boy!

Today would have been our angel Harvey's 6th Birthday. We miss him with all of our heart but feel so honoured to have been his parents and so proud of how many lives he has touched.

Happy birthday to the most gentle and special being we have ever known, there are no words to describe how much we love you or what you meant to us. We know that you are playing in the clouds over the rainbow bridge.

In honour of Harvey's birthday month we will be doing a blanket drive, keep posted for details in June.

Thank you to everyone for your continued support and for helping us keep Harveys spirit alive through the work that we do.

It's getting cold outside. We cant stress enough how important it is to keep your furry baby warm during the next few months and so we have made a little video to help guide you with some tips.

PRESCRIPTION FOR COLD WEATHER:
TAKE 1-2 FURRY BABIES AND SNUGGLE UNTIL SYMPTOMS ARE GONE.

We are absolutely touched and would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to Simparica South Africa for their INCREDIBLE generosity and donation of 7000 boxes / R2,000,000 (two million rand) worth of Tick & Flea tablets.

Our organisation in partnership with the absolutely incredible team from Puppify - Online Pet Store & Mobile Grooming, were able to help organisations across the country; FORA, The Dogs Trust, CLAW (Community Led Animal Welfare), Barberton SPCA, Noupoort Animalcare, The Society for Animals in Distress, PETS JHB - Pet Empowerment in Townships.

Without the help and determination of the amazing Wendy from Puppify - Online Pet Store & Mobile Grooming, this incredible dream of helping so many furry friends across our country would not of been possible.

We feel so lucky to be able to work with such incredible human beings and to have the constant support and love of our community.

Harvey is definitely looking down on us and feeling super proud.

21/03/2021

On this very special day, we take a moment to recognise the honour & privilege we have as human beings to look after, love and respect furry friends on this earth and in this beautiful country.

HAPPY HUMAN RIGHTS DAY!

85 Furry Friends will be spayed because of you guys - THANK YOU!

We would like to say a HUGE THANK YOU to each & every human that contributed to our 100 Spay Day. Together with The Dogs Trust, we were able to raise enough money to sterilise & vaccinate 85 furry friends. Although we didn’t reach the 100 mark we are so incredibly proud of what we have achieved together.

This wouldn’t of been possible without the love & support of you, our community. This is going to make a HUGE difference in the dogs of Diepsloot Townships lives and help slow down our stray epidemic.

Next week we embark on the challenge of taking the dogs from Diepsloot Township to the amazing humans at The Society for Animals in Distress who will kindly be doing the sterilisations & vaccinations. Thank you to TSFAID for your kindness & generosity.

Once again it has been proven that together and united for furry friends we can achieve anything and make an impact in South Africa.

Photos from Harveys beacon of light foundation's post 23/02/2021

Over the past few weeks we have raised enough to spay 60 dogs from Diepsloot Township with The Dogs Trust. This is INCREDIBLE, however we still have 40 furry babies that desperately need our help and assistance.

We are facing a stray pet epidemic and the only way to stop this is by stopping the breeding of unwanted puppies and protecting these furry babies from being exploited. If you can assist us in anyway, no donation is too small, our bank details are as follows:

Thank you to everyone for all of your love and support. Together we are changing furry babies lives every single day.

We want to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who has helped contribute to our ‘100 spay day’. We however still have a long way to go.

Dogs specifically in the townships are having unwanted puppies and being bred with. A lot of the time these puppies can not be looked after and end up being strays on the street. Our shelters are over run with furry babies needing homes and the incredible humans that run these shelters are overwhelmed with limited resources and funding.

The only way we are going to slow this down is by spaying these dogs. Because of the incredible work that The Dogs Trust does we have 100 dog from Diepsloot Township waiting to be spayed, we just need the funding to do it. We are asking for donations of as little as R25 towards a spay. Spays costs R450 with full vaccinations and a microchip because of the amazaing The Society for Animals in Distress.

Taking a moment to remember our special little boy Harvey. Because of him all of this is possible.

Although our hearts still break every day missing you, we can't help but feel that your life had a bigger purpose. Because of you so many furry friends have been saved and will be saved in the future. You are our inspiration and you will always be our bright beautiful angel light. We hope that you are proud and know that this is all for you.

February is world sterilisation (spay) month and so we are joining forces with The Dogs Trust to spay 100 dogs from Diepsloot township.

This is no easy task and so we are asking you Harvey's heroes to rally together and help us raise enough funds to make this possible. You can donate as little as R25 towards a sterilisation, every single bit helps.

Each sterilisation costs R450 and includes vaccinations and a microchip. The incredible humans from The Society for Animals in Distress will kindly be doing them for us.

As we all know we are facing a huge stray pet epidemic in South Africa. This is due to dogs not being sterilised and having puppies that can not be taken care of. The only way we are going to help slow this epidemic down is by coming together as a community to make a change in these furry babies lives.

We are officially back and wanted to take a moment to say THANK YOU to every single person who has supported us and helped us form this foundation in our Harvey boys honour. Through the hardest year of our lives and because of your BIG LOVE we were able to turn our heartache into something so beautiful and amazing. Without your support we wouldn't of been able to do it.

We are so proud of what we have achieved in the last 5 months and can't wait to continue helping furry friends & 'pawrents' in 2021.

Wishing everyone a wonderful, gentle and hopeful 2021.

As we bring in 2021 we ask everyone to take extra special care of your furry friend and please take note of our ‘fire work tool’ below.

Dogs hear noise at a much louder frequency then humans, the sound trigger their nervous systems and they become extremely anxious and afraid. Running away from the noise is a survival instinct and so we ask everyone to keep their furry friends in a calm environment, in doors so that they don’t go missing.

Wishing every human, paw-rent & furry friend a peaceful, calm and wonderful evening as we bring in 2021 ❤️🐶

With the festive season upon us we wanted to share some easy tips to help keep your furry friends more calm and less anxious during fireworks. We hope this helps 'pawrents' that might be feeling unsure on what to do.

Please take a look and share.

CHRISTMAS DOGGY TREATS!

In the spirit of Christmas, we have a very special tradition that we want to share with you, our supporters. On the eve of Christmas we always bake Christmas Doggy Treats for our furry babies Pepper & Harvey (now our angel in heaven) and bake an extra tray to donate to furry friends at a shelter, who deserve an extra special spoil over the festive season.

These are Harvey's Peanut & Pumpkin Christmas Doggy Treats. They are super fun to make with the entire family and your furry friends will absolutely love them. Try them out and send us pictures.

Wishing everyone the most wonderful Christmas tomorrow and festive season ahead.

In the spirit of the festive season, we headed down to Mpumalanga to assist the incredible teams and furry friends at Barberton SPCA & White River SPCA.

These organisations do absolutely incredible work and without them the animals in these areas would have absolutely no support. They are without a doubt real life heroes. Take a look at our outreach adventure to assist them.

TOOLS TO HELP YOU GET YOUR MISSING, LOST OR STOLEN FURRY FRIEND BACK.

With the festive season in full swing, we are receiving endless phone calls and emails of lost, missing & stolen furry friends.

We started this foundation a few months ago to help give 'pawrents' the tools that we felt we never had access to when Harvey went missing.

These were made to help you act quickly and smartly by having the right systems and processes in place. We developed these tools by gathering extensive research and interviewing countless people who had gone through this as well as speaking to animal welfare experts.

Making the correct missing, lost or stolen poster is of utmost importance. Knowing the first steps to take and what steps need to follow in order to get your furry friend back quickly. Having access straight away to all relevant vets, shelters and spca's in your province. These are some of the things that took us days to figure out or access. The helplessness we felt caused us extreme anguish and frustration and we never want anyone to go through that. Our mission is to educate 'pawrents' so that we can stop or at least help slow down this never ending nightmare of missing, lost and stolen pets across our country.

Not always, but so often a missing, lost or stolen pet can be avoided and so we have made a prevention tool in the hopes that 'pawrents' will read it and never have to go through the devastation of having a pet lost, missing or stolen.

Please share these far and wide with friends and family. We are still working hard on developing a lot more tools that will be released in 2021.

United in LOVE & HOPE for furry friends always.

See link below to access & save them: https://www.harveysbeaconoflight.org/tools-1

This past Saturday we held the most incredible vaccination and animal outreach day with The Dogs Trust in Diepsloot Township. It was truly a day filled with so much love & care for the furry friends we all care so deeply about.

Thank you to the wonderful Francheska Fotography for making this beautiful video, we are so touched and love it so much.

Photos from Harveys beacon of light foundation's post 14/12/2020

On Saturday we headed to Diepsloot Township for our first ‘PURPOSE FOR PAWS’ vaccination and animal outreach day with The Dogs Trust.

The work that Lee and her incredible team does is truly inspirational and from the moment we started our foundation we always wanted to assist her organisation and the furry friends of Diepsloot Township to the best of our ability. After our first HBOLF fundraising event, we had raised enough money to vaccinate 100 dogs and we knew straight away that The Dogs Trust was the organisation that we wanted to assist and so 'PURPOSE FOR PAWS' was born.

Saturday exceeded anything we could have ever hoped for. It was truly the most incredible and inspiring day from start to finish. The community was friendly and welcoming and made us feel right at home. It was incredible to witness so many amazing humans that love their furry friends, but do not always have the means to support them fully. This is what makes the work that The Dogs Trust do on a daily basis in Diepsloot Township so important.

We vaccinated, dewormed, did tick & flee dips and fed 100 dogs (and a few cats). We also assisted the children and Diepsloot community with food, clothing, toys and more. We had the most incredible volunteers and organisations come together to make this day happen, and of course none of this would have been possible without you guys, our incredible donors that rallied together to make sure we had enough food and goods to assist every single furry friend and ‘pawrent’ that came on the day.

Our hope is to do this incredible vaccination and outreach drive annually with The Dogs Trust.

We want to say a HUGE THANK YOU to the incredible organisations and individuals that made this day possible.

- Lee & The Dogs Trust team for making this day possible and all of the incredible work you do.
- Christine from The Visiting Vet for administering all of the vaccinations, medication and doing general health checks on all of the animals.
- Gideons Animal Outreach for doing all of the tick & flee dips.
- Wendy & The Earth Trust for helping give back to the community.
- David Harrington & Ultimo Group for supplying all of the syringes and needles on the day.
- Engela from SG events for providing us with fencing and security on the day.
- Dimitri & Jacoba Academy NPC for providing us with 400kgs of mielie-meal.
- Wendy and the amazing Puppify - Online Pet Store & Mobile Grooming team for helping us with dog food.
- Nadia & our incredible team of HBOLF volunteers.

A huge and special thank you to all of the volunteers that came to help on the day and to our supporters who made incredibly generous donations to our outreach day. Mandy Hill, Rita Roots & Shoots, Gerard Connolly, Shaggy Vahabzadeh, Sylvia & Andre Grobler, Karen Voges-Rossouw, Johanna Czerny, Roxy Burger, Linhill Celtic academy, Mandy Rey, Natasha & the Douglasdale Pick n Pay.

A very special thank you to Kirstyn Francheska from Francheska Fotography for volunteering your time and giving us these amazing photographs.

United for furry friends we can make a difference in South Africa and change so many furry friends lives.

We are so grateful and humbled by this incredible experience. Harvey would be so proud.
