ABOUT DJ HLO
Hlosiwe Mthalane affectionally know as DJ Hlo, is a 24-year-old Durban born amapiano DJ. Her love for music started at the age of 7. Dj Hlo holds a Bachelor of Social Science degree from the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal’s Howard College with Majors in Industrial Psychology and Management.
DJ Hlo’s work is equally inspired by musicians (she cites Dj Zinhle, Brand Fassie, as influences) as it is by authors like Sylvia Plath and Haruki Murakami—creating an amalgamation of emotionally raw lyricism and intensely moving instrumentals that cut straight through to listeners’ hearts. Now, as we move into 2022, Dj Hlo looking forward to finally putting her debut album out in the world. “I just hope that it brings something positive to people, especially because we're putting it out during this time of chaos and collapse and confusion.
Since 2017 DJ Hlo has worked together with Gqom and Amapiano artists, doing instore demos and showcases at music fairs. DJ Hlo continued to do her monthly DJ Hlo radio running hits mixes and never seized playing at many summer festivals.
2018: She had been producing dance music and performing live as DJ Hlo. She also continued work with demos and showcases. She played DJ sets at different clubs and dance festivals.
2019: Besides producing and DJ'ing live regularly at funky musical events, DJ HLO has been teaching DJ lessons at Durban the community of Sea View
2020: DJ HLO released a song title "Ebusuku" featuring Kaygee DaKing x Bizizi
2021: "Isibani" the current single featuring DJ Manzo and Siboniso is currently in the top ten most played song on Radio Monitor South Africa.
2022: DJ HLO won song of the year that took us to 2022
