Welkom police on the hunt after officer suffers fatal injuries | Netwerk24 In a tragic twist to the filling station robbery in Stateway, Welkom, in which a policeman was wounded two weeks ago, an officer has now lost his life.

*Holistic approach to boost employee wellness and productivity*

The Employee Assistance Professionals in the Wellness Unit under Matjhabeng's Corporate Services Directorate assist employees with issues that may affect their productivity.

The Municipality has recently appointed five qualified social workers to provide professional therapeutic services to employees. The Employee Assistance Professionals then make referrals to relevant stakeholders.

As holistic beings, it is only natural that external issues may affect the productivity of employees in the workplace. For this reason, the unit provides assistance with issues relating to health, legal, financial as well as alcohol and substance abuse, among others.

The Employee Wellness Program is a work-site based program designed to assist in the early identification and resolution of productivity challenges associated with employees who are impared by personal challenges.

Employees can reach out for help personally or through the referral of a supervisor or manager who has experienced productivity problems with an employee.

The program is available free of charge to all Matjhabeng employees and all consultations and information given are confidential. Participation is voluntary and will not jeopardize an employee's job security.

Stress, burn out, low staff morale (lack of resources) and psycho-social issues have been identified as common challenges faced by employees.

"We strive to ensure that we address the challenges that are brought to our attention because we know that happy employees are productive employees" said unit manager, Mr. M Dastile.

Matjhabeng Local Municipality invests in the wellbeing of its employees because it acknowledges the invaluable role they play in providing services to the community which it serves. The Municipality will continue to strive to create a conducive environment for its employees so they can continue giving their best.

There are wellness units in all six units of Matjhabeng.

Residents of Matjhabeng are informed that there is a water outage because the Balkfontein plant had to be stopped due to the fact that there is no Ferric chloride.
The Ferric Chloride has not arrived yet but is anticipated to be delivered by Bloem Water by 16:00 this afternoon.
Riebeeckstad, Welkom, Thabong, Kutlwanong, Odendaalsrus, and the Ventersburg system will be affected.
Matjhabeng Local Municipality relies on Bloem Water as the implementing agent and has no control over delivery processes. As such, the Municipality would like to appeal to its residents to exercise patience during this time.
Let us all continue to use water sparingly.

*ELDERLY WOMAN BUST WITH COPPER CABLE WORTH R89 000 BELONGING TO* *MATJHABENG MUNICIPALITY*

*Odendaalsrus* : Copper cable which belongs to Matjhabeng Municipality were stolen in Odendaalsrus and Welkom. Intelligence driven information was conducted which led to the arrest of the wife of an electrician.

On the 10 November 2022 at about 11:30 members of Crime Intelligence, Matjhabeng Municipality Investigation Unit and Odendaalsrus Visible Policing followed up information about an electrician who was involved in illegal copper cable in Hospital Park Odendaalsrus.

The house was identified as approached and the an elderly woman was found and permission was asked to search, which was granted. While members were busy searching, the following copper cable belonging to Matjhabeng Municipality which was stolen from these places, Theronia Sewerage Plant, also known as Waste Water Treatment Plant in Welkom, Kutloanong Sewerage Plant, which is currently under construction and Electrical Sub Station Number One in Odendaalsrus CBD.

Matjhabeng Municipality Investigation Unit confirmed that cases were registered and under investigation by Welkom and Detective Services. There was no documentation to prove why all these copper cable belonging to the Municipality were found on this residential premises. A 67 year old woman was arrested for Possession of Suspected stolen copper cable, Theft of Copper Cable and Criminal Matters and Amendment Act 18 /2015.

The suspect will appear soon in Odendaalsrus and Welkom Magistrate Courts respectively.

*The District Commissioner of Lejweleputswa, Maj Gen Lerato Molale* says these seizure and arrest will send a strong message that during this Festive Season the SAPS has a zero tolerance approach to destruction of the Infrastructure and residents are encouraged to work together with us to squeeze copper cable theft to zero.

MATJHABENG MUNICIPALITY OWES ESKOM R4.8-BILLION
=======================
16 municipalities in the Free State owe Eskom more than 17 billion rand.

Three municipalities each have more than a billion rand in debt.
1. Maluti-A-Phofung owes Eskom just under R7-billion
2. Matjhabeng R4.8-billion
3. Ngwathe R1.5-billion.

According to Eskom, these municipalities consume energy of around R200-million every month.

ESKOM says it is a challenge to continue to improve and maintain infrastructure despite this debt.

The power supplier praised the Metsimaholo municipality, which is the only one in the province that has no debt.
Eskom also thanked the Setsoto municipality as a region that continuously services its current account.

Bloem Water experienced a Chlorine dosing leak last night and had to stop the plant at Balkfontein. The team will repair the leak this morning.
The reservoirs at Riebeeckstad is now empty and will take some time to fill up again.
Bloem Water request residents to use water sparingly until the situation normalise.
