ANC STATEMENT ON THE PASSING OF KWAITO STAR MOJALEFA 'MJOKES' MATSANE
The African National Congress is deeply saddened by the untimely passing of renowned Kwaito Music star Mojalefa Matsane. Mjokes, as he was affectionately known in the music industry, was a member of the popular music group, Trompies, and a co-director of Kalawa Jazmee Records. He passed away in the early hours of this morning, Sunday 23 May 2021, following a tragic car accident.
Mjokes’s passing is a profound loss to the entire nation as he was one of the path finders of post-apartheid cultural expression. He was an activist in his own right and a talented musician with so much to give and live for. We call upon young South Africans to draw inspiration from the positive contribution that Mjokes made to society. The vibrant and positive spirit illustrated by his work is an example of how young people could and should use their diverse skills and abilities to contribute to the development of a better South Africa.
We express our sincere condolences to Matsana's family, friends, colleagues and fans. May they find solace in knowing that their loss is the nation's loss.

ANC STATEMENT ON THE PLANNED NIGHT VIGIL BY PEOPLE PURPORTING TO BE ANCYL MEMBERS
The African National Congress (ANC) has noted with concern that people purporting to be
members of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) are planning to hold a night vigil at Luthuli House on Thursday, 13 May 2021.
According to the group, their objective is to "unite and save the ANC". The ANC wishes to reaffirm the right of its members to peaceful protest.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) remains focused on the unity and renewal of our movement as well as the implementation of the resolutions of the 54th National Conference.
The narrative that the NEC is not implementing conference resolutions or that it is focusing only on one resolution is not borne out by the facts.
The ANC calls on all its members and structures to rally behind the decisions of the NEC, the highest decision-making body in between conferences, as well as the resolutions of National Conference.
The NEC will be embarking on a roadshow to regions and provinces to explain and clarify its recent decisions to ensure common understanding across the organisation.

The African National Congress (ANC) has learnt with sadness about the passing of Dr Frank Mdlalose, who succumbed to COVID-19 complications on Saturday.
Dr Mdlalose was the first Premier of Kwa Zulu-Natal (KZN) following the 1994 democratic elections. He was later appointed as South Africa’s Ambassador to Egypt.
Dr Mdlalose represented the IFP in the constitutional negotiations that led to the 1994 democratic breakthrough.

ANC EASTER MESSAGE TO THE PEOPLE OF SOUTH AFRICA
The African National Congress (ANC) wishes all South Africans a happy and blessed Easter.
As is tradition, South Africans will be going to their various places of worship across the country, albeit under completely different conditions occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many others will be taking a holiday break or traveling to visit families or attend various social or cultural gatherings.
The ANC calls on all South Africans to help curb the spread of COVID-19 during this Easter. Let us use the Easter period to summon our collective will to act with even more determination to defeat this pandemic. We have a collective duty to make sure that Easter activities do not become super-spreaders.
We reiterate the importance of social distancing, washing hands, sanitising, and wearing masks. Consistent with the message of President Ramaphosa, we urge South Africans to stay home and only travel when it is absolutely necessary and to avoid big crowds.
We call on all citizens to observe and comply with all COVID regulations as announced by the President. We must remember that at the core of our country’s COVID-19 regulations is the drive to protect lives and livelihoods. Let us comply with these temporary restrictions on our lives knowing that they are necessary to save our own lives and the lives of our loved ones and fellow citizens.
The progress we have made thus far as a nation in the war against COVID-19 was made possible largely by the effective measures that were implemented by government as well as all citizens of our country who chose to comply with lockdown measures.
Our nation was able to emerge from the first and second wave because most people adhered to the tighter restrictions and observed the basic health protocols. During this winter, with the real possibility of a third wave, we urge South Africans to remain vigilant and never lower our guards.
The ANC believes that the third wave can be defeated and lives saved if all South Africans rally behind government efforts, comply and adhere to guidelines. Let us continue wearing masks, washing our hands, observing social distancing and avoiding crowded places. We all have a responsibility to help curb the transmission of coronavirus.
It’s in our hands! You can help curb the spread of the virus. Let us protect each other.
The ANC wishes all those who will be travelling to drive safely and help prevent the carnage on our roads this Easter. Let us observe all rules of the road, respect fellow road users, avoid drinking and driving and always remember that speed kills. The ANC wishes to remind all our road users that reckless driving, speed, fatigue, failure to observe the rules of the road and drunken driving are the main killers on our roads.
Those who violate traffic rules or put the lives of fellow road users at risk must face the full might of the law.
