Fragrance oils and essential oils are two types of oils commonly used to create scents. However, despite having the same purpose, these two oils are fundamentally different from each other. Fragrance oils are synthetic compounds specifically formulated to mimic a certain scent, and they are widely utilized in scented products such as perfumes and candles. On the other hand, essential oils are natural oils extracted from plants using steam distillation. They offer a variety of applications, including aromatherapy and skincare. Essential oils are composed of various compounds that lend them their unique scent and properties and are known to offer some health benefits.

In candle making, fragrance oils are often preferred over essential oils due to their higher degree of stability and longevity. Fragrance oils have a stronger and more potent scent, which is essential in candles. However, essential oils can also be used in candles and offer some benefits such as being a more natural option and providing some health benefits.

Essential oils may not be as compatible with wax as fragrance oils, as they can cause the wax to discolor and influence the melting point of the wax. Moreover, essential oils are more volatile, and a higher amount of essential oils may be required to achieve the same scent throw.
