Yesterday Ruan ended a full karate weekend with an eight-hour training session with Sensei Junior Lefevre at the Sports Science Institute of South Africa. The session started at 09h00 and only ended at 17h00.

What a session it was. Brutal might be a good word to describe it! These athletes really worked very hard yesterday. Going through a marathon of exercises, combo’s and techniques and every single instruction had to be performed at their very best. Nothing less than 100% was expected and accepted!

I think all the athletes finished the session with sore bodies, legs and feet. Ruan had a couple of blisters developing under his feet, but he ended the session smiling. Priceless moments!!!

It was a very proud moment for him when he received his certificate from Sensei Junior Lefevre. It’s very special for Ruan to be part of this awesome Western Cape group of athletes.

These sessions came at the right time before the 7th World Goju-Ryu Federation Championship, and this will really help Ruan in his preparation for this championship.

Thanks again to Sensei Caroll Ann and her team from Karate Western Cape for making these sessions possible and for bringing Sensei Junior Lefevre to Cape Town. Meeting Sensei Junior Lefevre is definitely a huge highlight in Ruan’s karate journey. The exposure to these training sessions will definitely bear fruit in future!

Six months from now we just might go through this whole exercise again – hint, hint ……..!!!!!!!

Yesterday Ruan attended the 20th OGKK Anniversary Celebration Gashuku for 20 years of OGKK RSA in Cape Town.

It's awesome to see that Ruan is taking his Traditional Karate so serious, and he is always keen to support and take part in OGKK events. It’s an absolute honor for him to belong to OGKK with direct linage to Okinawa.

This was an awesome event. Ruan made lots of new friends and he made lots of new memories!!!

The Western Cape athletes that is part of the RSA Goju-Ruy National Karate Team was introduced at the 20th OGKK Anniversary Celebration Gashuku today.

Another priceless karate memory in Ruan's karate journey!!!

Ruan had an awesome training session with Junior Lefevre today!!

High quality training from the first minute until the session was completed. Ruan was exposed to new training techniques and the session was just a completely new way of doing things.

These sessions come at the right time before the 7th World Goju-Ryu Federation Championship and this will really help Ruan in his preparation for this championship.

Meeting Junior Lefevre is definitely a huge highlight in Ruan’s karate journey.

Thanks again to Karate Western Cape for making these sessions possible. The exposure to these training sessions will definitely bear fruit in future!

Special Moment – “Capping Evening” – 01 August 2024

Last night a special event took place at the dojo! It was “Capping Evening” for the athletes that was selected to represent South Africa at the 7th World Goju-Ryu Federation Championship in Austria!

What a special and proud moment in Ruan’s karate journey when his name was called, and he was presented with his awesome green and gold tracksuit jacket.

This is the payoff for hard work and termination. Ruan worked very hard to reach this point and he made lots of sacrifices. Through this whole process he stayed humble, and he always gave 100% and more to enable him to be competitive in Austria. The journey was hard with lots of stumbling blocks, tears and disappointments, but Ruan overcame every obstacle and he kept on coming back harder and stronger.

There is still lots of hard work left before we leave for Austria, but I am more than sure that he will continue to work hard. The final stretch is to polish and round off all the small details and to stay healthy and out of trouble. Injuries must also be avoided at all cost!!
