🎀 What is PMU ? 🎀

Permanent makeup, also known as permanent cosmetics, derma-pigmentation, micro-pigmentation, and cosmetic tattooing, is a cosmetic technique which employs tattoos (permanent pigmentation of the dermis) as a means of producing designs that resemble makeup, such as eye-lining and other permanent enhancing colors to the skin of the face, lips, and eyelids.

It is also used to produce artificial eyebrows, particularly in people who have lost them as a consequence of old age, disease, such as alopecia totalis, chemotherapy, or a genetic disturbance, and to disguise scars and hypopigmentation in the skin such as in vitiligo.

Pregnancy is a unique and delicate physiological state where a woman's body undergoes significant changes to support the development and nurturing of the fetus. When it comes to getting permanent makeup, which involves tattooing pigments into the skin, several factors make it a less advisable choice during pregnancy:

1. Hormonal Changes: Pregnancy leads to significant hormonal fluctuations, including changes in estrogen and progesterone levels. These hormonal changes can affect skin sensitivity, making it more prone to adverse reactions during and after the tattooing process.

2. Immune System: The immune system undergoes modifications during pregnancy to protect both the mother and the developing fetus. An active immune response might influence the healing process and retention of the tattoo, potentially leading to unpredictable outcomes.

3. Risk of Infection: There is a risk of infection associated with any skin-penetrating procedure, including permanent makeup. During pregnancy, the body's immune response may not be as effective in preventing or combating infections, which could pose additional risks.

4. Allergic Reactions: Pregnant women might be more prone to allergic reactions during this time. Tattoo pigments and the substances used for numbing or inks might trigger unexpected allergic responses that could be detrimental to both the mother and the developing fetus.

5. Anaesthetics: The use of anesthetics, which is common during permanent makeup procedures to minimize pain, can raise concerns during pregnancy. There is limited information available regarding the safety of anesthetics in pregnant women, making it a potential risk.

6. Healing Process: Pregnancy can slow down the body's natural healing processes, which may lead to complications in the healing of the tattooed area. Prolonged healing can also increase the risk of infection.

To minimise potential risks, medical professionals and PMU artists generally advise against getting permanent makeup while pregnant. It's safer to postpone these procedures until after pregnancy and, if applicable, the breastfeeding period. This allows for a more predictable and safe outcome for both the mother and the baby. Additionally, consulting with a healthcare provider before any cosmetic procedure during pregnancy is essential to consider individual health factors and obtain personalised advice.

Scarring caused by microblading😢

This is the most difficult correction to do as the skin struggles to accept new pigment over scarring. Color correcting can mostly be done easily if the client is happy with the current shape BUT when scarring is present there is a lot of luimph resulting in inferior results and multiple sessions may be needed.

🔵What to expect during the healing phase and what is normal?

Every client heals different depending on skin ,aftercare and techniques used.
Mild flaking is normal during the healing process.
Oozing, thick, crusty scabs are not normal.
Some clients may experience itching as the skin regenerates.

How tempting are these flakes to just grab and peel off?
But absolutely NO PICKING allowed , picking can lead to scarring and uneven/blotchy results.

It is important to take good care of your investment by following aftercare and maintenance on your PMU procedure!

Proper care following your procedure is important and required to achieve optimum results. I will provide you a aftercare pack with everything you need to take care of your brows.
Keep in mind that some intensity of color will be lost during the healing and/or the color may heal unevenly. This is the reason for the follow up appointment, to fill in any areas, to go a little darker or thicker if desired and to adjust shape or color if needed.

By adding colour back to the natural lip tissue we correct the shape, the appearance of volume loss and symmetry.
