Super Savings Tip of the Week!
The 100 envelope challenge!

How to do it:
You start with 100 envelopes and label them with the numbers 1 to 100. Place the envelopes in some sort of container (like a shoebox). For the next 100 days, randomly pull an envelope out of the box and put in an amount of cash equal to the number on the outside of it. For instance, if you draw envelope No. 34, you’d put in R34.

If you stick with the challenge, you’ll have R5,050 in the envelopes by the end of it. Who couldn't do with a nice R5k surprise every 3 months!?

Try it and let us know how it went!

Super Savings Tip of the Week!

TAKE TIME TO GO BUY GROCERIES!
These days with the convenience of online ordering to your door, less and less people are actually venturing out on a big grocery buy and rather spending weekly or daily using apps.

But don't be fooled by the ease and time saving benefits these apps offer, as you will probably end up spending more, here is why:

1. Most apps charge a delivery fee, doesn't matter how big your order is. That is an extra charge you where not bargaining for.
2. There is a minimum spend on the apps, for example if I just need bread and milk, I have to spend a minimum of R100 to place my order, that excludes the delivery fee. Now you end up filling your cart with unnecessary items just to make that minimum spend.
3. You can't shop around. You end up paying what ever that app is charging for 2 min noodles, cause you won't bother downloading a second app to compare the prices, shopping around can save you hundreds of rands!
4. Certain items have a per kg price, so you don't actually have too much control over how much the item costs. For example, a pack of chicken breast could be R149 per kg, so you expect to pay R149, but the only size they had in stock was a 1,5kg and boom you've just spent R50 more without knowing it (They charge the extra R50 to your card after the delivery) You also get to pick exactly what you want when you are in the store, for example I like to buy my bananas a little green as I take a while to eat them... but I always receive ripe and ready bananas that then end up going off before I can finish them.
5. There is an item limit on the app platforms, so if you try to do a big buy on them you'll probably have to split your order in 2 and pay the delivery fee a second time.

Our advice: Make a day of it once a month where you compare specials online, go out shop for all your products at once. And when you do only need your weekly bread and milk, pop into a store on your way home from work rather than getting it delivered!
