City of Johannesburg Speaker goes against SSA findings
by Cllr Belinda Kayser-Echeozonjoku - DA Johannesburg Caucus Leader
Date: 16 August 2023
Release: Immediate
Note to Editors: Please find the State Security Agency Findings here, English soundbite here, and Afrikaans soundbite here
The DA in Johannesburg demands that the Speaker of Council ceases her unfounded attacks against the Group Head of Forensic Investigative Services (GFIS). The State Security Agency (SSA) launched a full investigation into the allegations and found no wrongdoing.
We note with serious concern press statements where she accuses GFIS of employing counter intelligence surveillance measures against Councillors in the City of Johannesburg.
In an attempt to bolster her political future, Speaker Makhubele has tried to garner favour with other parties, like the ANC, by attempting to legitimise the neutering of GFIS in the June Council sitting.
GFIS was investigating numerous illegal activities perpetrated by members of the current administration, and as a result of the side-lining of the entity has managed to halt all investigations into their alleged illegal activities. The way that justice has been avoided, is an unacceptable way for public representatives to conduct themselves.
The matter of GFIS employing these surveillance measures has been debunked on numerous occasions, a fact that Makhubele continues to ignore.
It is clear to the DA Caucus that the speaker who is facing a vote of no confidence in Council, as well as the withdrawal of her Party, will do anything to stay in her position, while winning favour from the current regime.
The DA will not deviate from our goal – we will continue to ensure accountability while protecting Johannesburg’s residents from the endemic corruption by the doomsday coalition.
The DA stands for the Rule of Law and will ensure that those doomsday coalition Officials who disregard it, are brought to book.

DA Leader John Steenhuisen’s opening remarks at the
by John Steenhuisen MP - Leader of the Democratic Alliance
Date: 16 August 2023
Release: Immediate
Note to Editors: The following opening remarks were delivered by the DA Federal Leader John Steenhuisen at the opening of the two day Multi-Party Convention.
Good morning,
The next two days are not about politics or politicians.
The next two days are about the people of South Africa.
The outcome of these negotiations must be judged based on whether they provide concrete solutions to improve the lives of the South African people.
For that to be the case, this cannot and must not be a purely anti-ANC project.
It must be a pro-South African project.
Tomorrow evening when this process is complete, judge the politicians sitting here on whether the outcome promises tangible improvements to your life.
Ask whether we are collectively providing solutions to issues like unemployment, load shedding and crime.
If the answer is yes – if these parties emerge with an agreement not only to defeat the ANC but to rescue South Africa – then I ask that you judge it as a success.
Our country does not have a second to waste.
Now is the time for all leaders gathered here to put aside pettiness, ego and the past, so that we can focus on the future.
The DA is irrevocably committed to this project.
It is something I publicly committed my party to following our Federal Congress.
To all my fellow leaders at this table, I say thank you.
Thank you for how far we have already come.
Many people thought we would never even be able to get to this point of sitting around the same table to find common solutions.
Yet, here we are.
And now our biggest test looms before us.
Over the next two days, we will have honest and robust discussions.
But I know that they will be based on the passion we all share for this beautiful country, and for the people who call her home.
The people gathered here today represent a broad spectrum of the South African people.
Seated before you are people from Durban, Mthatha, Hammanskraal, Stilfontein, Mtubatuba and Cape Town.
South Africans, all of us.
And what we are doing here over the next few days are for all the people of South Africa.
This is the outcome we seek.
An agreement for the people of Durban, of Mthatha, of Hammanskraal, of Stilfontein, of Mtubatuba, of Cape Town, and for every town and city in this country.
Judge the outcome of the next two days on whether we provide solutions to the problems you face in your daily life.
I will repeat what I’ve said before: this project must not be owned by politicians.
It must be owned by the people.
And if you are satisfied with the outcome of our discussions, then I ask that the people claim their ownership by going out to register to vote in massive numbers.
The moment for change has arrived.
I pledge the DA’s full support to making sure we seize it with both hands.
Thank you
John Steenhuisen MP
Leader of the Democratic Alliance

DA's notice to ANC: Pack up and go or face electoral defeat in 2024 The DA says this weekend's congress which will elect new leadership was the DA's notice to the ANC that it would end its rule in the 2024 national general elections in 2024.
Week after week we hear of millions getting plundered, imagine how many houses could have been built or hospitals upgraded already! dagauteng.org.za/2023/03/r708-m…
In my healthy mind, i ask the following:
A- Why should a political party with a track record of disastor continue to enjoy the fuel of the people.
B- Are we as voters the driving force behind a failed state?
C- What are we doing in our personal capacity to avoid a total disastor?
If the answers provided speaks for growth and prosperity, it means that anyone who is South African and possess a South African ID, needs to register to vote in the 2024 general election, we all need to bring our part to draw the ANC's reign of terror to an end.

Dr Mpho Phalatse is SA’s best hope for a government that gets things done.
With a great appetite coming from South Africans to see a capable and strong black woman lead the DA, the coming weekend we will witness history in the making.
Against all odds and the ever increasing endorsements in the DA by prominent leaders, each and everyone have but only one vote to cast and that will be in favour of Dr Mpho Phalatse.
South Africans will experience a shack up, former City of Joburg mayor Dr
Mpho Phalatse is the only hope at this point to drive South Africa into a different direction.
