I am a learner artist, on a mission to find my voice, I do art for myself, and hope that somewhere i
Ribbon bush … can fix sore eyes, or be eaten like spinach… or painted on my gelli print…. Also at the Botanical Tales exhibition.
One of the 8 Falling Star (Crosmosmia) mixed media pieces inspired by the optimism of the pops of orange this lovely flowers bring to the forest edges.
December found me moving my art out of my house and into a beautiful space with a group of friends from the community I am blessed to live in. It’s been an awful year as far a health goes and this feels like claiming a bit of the goodness in life back. I’ll post some of my paintings over the next week as I’ve not done much new work lately.
I had the privilege of being interviewed by on her podcast Art Juice. If you had told me a few years ago I’d be painting, part of a worldwide art community and have a chance to be on a very successful art podcast, I’d have laughed at you! Doing the Find Your Joy Taster course in 2019 changed my life. Join us for this year’s one! Www.Louisefletcher.com for all the details.
So fortunate to have this conversation with the marvellous Louise who inspires me to keep on painting and follow my joy!
finding the sweet spot [art juice 221] — Louise Fletcher Art Eight years ago, Carlene Bronner was told she had only 18 months to live. Luckily, that prognosis was wrong and today she joins Louise to discuss how the illness spurred her into new efforts with her art, and where those efforts led her. Carlene's journey has been remarkable and she now sells her
Still down the gelli plate rabbit hole… not printing any more, but repurposing the prints. I’ve been listening to in her Your Art Tribe community talking about the difference between being in a block or being on a break… the gelli plate printing has seen me through a break, satisfying my need to create while I take a break from the pressure I was putting myself under to create amazing ground breaking conceptual art, which quite frankly I don’t have the energy or head space for. Another splash of optimistic orange…
Botanical study with a pop of orange
Last one…
The beauty of a glue stencil and a gelli plate is that abstraction will happen!
I’m still stuck in a quandary as to what to do next so I grabbed a few gelli plate prints and just started painting. I’m still stuck but it felt good to at least play.
Pops of orange to warm my feed on this freezing cold day!
Life has been taking place in the arena and less in the studio the past 2 weeks and whilst there’s been incredible magic between horses and people there, there’s only a little magic happening with the paper and paints. But I’m not surprised that it’s the eyes that are working because even the paint horses show up with that clear, all seeing eye!
Looking on the Bright Side. Been having a bit of a tough week physically (brain won’t recognise muscles holding my knee in alignment) and it can drain one’s optimism sometimes. But then I spend the morning in the arena with horses and enthusiastic humans, and I’m yet again reminded that life is good, if we look for the bright side. A3 watercolour and gouache on paper. ZAR 4000. (£165)
What a great gallery this is, and the exhibition has been a very successful one for me...2 paintings sold, and so I delivered another 3 that will stay on afterwards. If you are in the Ballito area this weekend, it is worth a visit.
I’ve been redoing my website and rediscovering drawings that I forgot about!! These drawings in my Dancing with your Dark horse series. Please pop over to the website for prices and other details
I spent a rainy day redoing my website to get it ready for new work that should be photographed soon. Please go have a look and let me know what you think, and if you find any glitches or spelling mistakes!! www.carlbronnerart.com
After a week of spending time with my horses up in the fields, it felt right to have one land on some paper in my studio. Swipe to see the real horses…
And so the last dahlia is done. It’s been a non challenging, soothing journey into colour, and I’m really happy with the results. But as I head into 10 days of lots of Horseplay (my equine learning program ) I think horses might come back into my creative practice soon!!
The result of painting in the dark when you overgraze and have to pull it back somehow…. Lucky mistake!
Monday morning compromises. Load shedding means no electricity for the next 2 hours, on a dark and rainy day… and the desire to paint is huge.
I’ve been focusing on colour rather than flowers and it’s resulted in an abstract piece. It has been really a peaceful, meditative process.
Is this finished?? I’m down to my last few dahlia gelli prints and part of me wants to leave this as is… and another part says it’s not finished. But I like the white space as it highlights the colour. What do you prefer?
Sold! My interpretations for the Stories.ZA exhibition . The series is called To Be Seen. Thank you to and her staff for the opportunity to leave my farm studio and to venture out into public!
I’ve had a busy time on the farm lately and so art has taken a back seat, but every day I’ve added a bit of colour to my gelli plate prints of dahlias. Orange explosion!
I dropped off my 2 entries yesterday… what a great gallery…friendly people with a passion for sharing art with the public.
Delivering my stories on Sunday! So excited but so nervous too!!
I’m very proud to be amongst such talented artists in a fantastic space. Support the arts and spend some time here enjoying South African storytelling at its most unique!
I went to visit a neighbor and was gifted a few huge dahlias to try use on a gelli plate. I discovered that you have to wait for them to wilt and soften before using them. I’m slightly intimidated by the complexities of their petals so I might have to think differently about how I use this background….
I am so enjoying the slow observing and capturing of details . The previous ones were done with acrylics, but for this one I used oil paints and the luminosity is the result.
