Happy Women's Day to all the strong, smart and beautiful women of South Africa! Let us celebrate all that we have already accomplished and support each other in achieving even bigger goals in the future!
According to a 2019 report by S4 Integration, only 13% of graduates in STEM fields in South Africa are women. But according to AAUW, there's zero evidence to support the notion that boys are better than girls at math and science.
Therefore, we need to improve STEM education and support for girls starting from early education, and encourage their interest in maths and science to build their confidence in their skills so that they pursue graduate studies in STEM fields.
I believe that in the years to come, the best scientists and inventions will emerge from our continent. Africa is not devoid of innovation or innovative thinkers, we are a powerful and resourceful continent that is alive with possibility!
This week we are celebrating National Science Week and creating awareness of STEM education and industry opportunities, especially for young girls and women 👩🏿🔬
