bizcommunity.com On the next Biz Takeouts Marketing & Media radio show, Thursday, 6 August 2015, from 9-10am, show host Warren Harding starts the show by looking at radio advertising.
Does anyone remember this (awful yet classic) rhyme/rap radio ad from the 90s? It was for Lombard Tyres, and flighted profusely on 94.7 and 702 back in the day:
"Well I'm an alien from outer space,
And I'm truing real hard to get out of this place
But my tyres are flat and my alignment's wrong
I need a wheel balance that won't take too long
So I took my ship down to Lombard in town
And Had my Goodyears on before the sun went down
And that's the story of my trip to Earth
And how I got my money's worth, at
LOMBARD TYRES"
Been stuck in our Head of Creative's brain for 25 years, that.
If you're listening to the radio on your way into work this morning, do us a solid and let us know which ad stood out to you as the best, and which was the most appalling. We're doing some qualitative research... Thanks! HS
Advertising Jingles: a Lost Art? | Hailstorm
Advertising jingles are responsible for some of the music that's been most firmly stuck in our heads for years. Sometimes decades. We think it's a lost art that's due for a resurgence. Check out this blog with more on the topic, plus some videos of legendary 80s and 90s classic ads...

Hailstorm: "Destroy All Humans" | Hailstorm
A little ad we made. About the ads we make. And aliens destroying the planet...

hailstorm.co.za Stardate 2314: a peaceful emissary from Earth accidentally wanders into space controlled by the Aggregion Intergalactic Space Empire, incurring the wrath of Overlord Goonzar Facecrusher.
If you're a human with functioning ears that grew up in 80s or 90s South Africa, your inner-monologue is most likely set to a backing track of permanently looped advertising jingles. We think it's a lost art that we'd like to bring back.
We've had "Oh boy! Mom remembered Melrose!" and "Sometimes you need a little Finesse, and sometimes you need a lot!" stuck in our heads for a few decades now. Which jingles regularly haunt your subconscious?
