It’s been a while. But it’s also been a heartbeat, a blink of an eye, and a moment ago.
A lot has changed, but a lot has stayed the same. Let me catch you up and share some details.
Up until May 3rd 2023, I was living in Johannesburg, South Africa, with my husband and 4 year old twins. I was thriving in my workspace , focusing on helping and healing people using my degrees in Exercise physiology and psychology. Behind the scenes, I was processing our colossal plans to close the South African Chapter of my family’s life, and immigrate to England. Knowing that the ability to “pick up where we left off” , in a new Country, was impossible, we took the leap anyway. We had made a commitment to the journey, and we are not quitters. Saying goodbye to all that we said goodbye to was hard everyday, and seemingly insurmountable more times than I care to admit.
BUT we made it. We touched down on the greenest land I’ve ever seen. I’ve fallen in-love with the countryside. I’ve found beautiful souls to call friends and we have created a new life. I’ve found a way to bring my passion of connecting with and helping people to my new home. It’s taken some time, it has been a while and there are still more changes to come. My plan is to continue to change bodies, change minds and change lives, Online!
I’d love it if you’d stick around to watch this space ……. 😉

In between running a Biokinetics practice, a Pilates studio and being a twin mom and wife, I need to also find the time to dedicate focus and intention towards myself . It hasn’t been easy and I have neglected this more often than I’d like. But I have regrouped, realigned and refocused. A pilates class is a gift I give to myself. And doing it with a fellow practice and studio owner, mom, wife and dear friend makes it all the more special.
Mobility is the ability to move freely. 🤸♀️
Cause of decreased mobility:
*Injury
*Surgery
*Stiffness
*Joint guarding
*Decreased activity
Our bodies tend to get used to less mobility in movements and this can result in further injury. Decreased mobility can lead to discomfort and pain, which can be very frustrating. Optimal mobility gets the body in its natural position for strengthening the skeletal and structural components, without restriction.
Correct Sitting Posture….
These days almost everyone spends long hours on their computers for work or studying. We tend to get so busy that we forget what harm we are doing to our bodies with incorrect sitting posture.
Here are just a few healthy sitting posture tips for your bodies to work optimally and strain free:
* Computer screen, eye level
* Relaxed shoulders
* Forearms parallel to the floor
* Minimal waist bend
* Have a back and arm rest
* Knees 90 degree bend
* Flat feet
* TAKE REGULAR BREAKS
Flat feet can occur during childhood, when the arches of the feet don't develop, after injury or the wear and tear stresses of age.
Exercise therapy can reduce any further injuries or conditions. That is why it is so important for children to receive foot therapy at an early age, while they are still in their growing stages and open to change bad habits they are not aware of.
Strengthening and stretching the correct muscles with using prescribed exercise programs will support treatment for flat feet (Ples Planus)
"Neurological conditions are medically defined as disorders that affect the brain as well as the nerves found throughout the human body and the spinal cord. Structural, biochemical or electrical abnormalities in the brain, spinal cord or other nerves can result in a range of symptoms"

ZZZZZZZ..... We all need better sleep! And we'd like it to come naturally. (Tall order right)
Here is where exercise comes in!
Exercising improves sleep for many people. Moderate-to-vigorous exercise can increase sleep quality for adults by reducing sleep onset (the time it takes to fall asleep) and decrease the amount of time they lie awake in bed during the night. Additionally, physical activity can help alleviate daytime sleepiness and, for some people, reduce the need for sleep medications.
We specifically offer Pilates and Yoga classes for the focus on breathwork and calming of the mind, whilst stretching and strengthening the body.

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic, progressive, and disabling autoimmune disease that can affect anyone at any age. It causes inflammation, swelling, and pain in and around the joints and can affect other body organs.
It usually involves the same joints on both sides of the body. It has been known to affect the hands and feet first, but it can occur in any joint.
Common symptoms include stiff joints, especially when getting up in the morning or after sitting down for a while. Some people experience fatigue and a general feeling of being unwell.
can assist with easing joint stiffness, increasing muscle mass due to atrophy caused by the condition, and helps decrease cardiovascular risk.

April is Parkinson’s Disease Awareness month which provides an opportunity to broaden our follower’s knowledge on this neurodegenerative disease.
Parkinson's disease is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement. Symptoms start gradually, sometimes starting with a barely noticeable tremor in just one hand. Tremors are common, but the disorder also commonly causes stiffness or slowing of movement.
Exercise is a beneficial treatment modality for Parkinson’s' patients. Exercise help increase mobility and flexibility, thus improving quality of life for patients as well as decreasing their risk of falling and further injury.
Biokineticists are qualified healthcare professionals who prescribe scientifically based exercise treatment for patients to help improve quality of life, slow down the degenerative process, and focus on increasing strength, flexibility and coordination to manage daily tasks.

Neurological rehabilitation is one of the many areas of rehabilitation that our Biokineticists are passionate about 🚶♀️👐🏻
Parkinson’s disease is a common, progressive nervous system disorder that affects movement.
“Generally, what we know is that dance activates brain areas in those without PD. For those with Parkinson’s disease, even when it is mild, motor impairment can impact their daily functioning and how they feel about themselves,” explains senior author of the paper, Dr. Joseph DeSouza.
Check out the study about the effects of dance in Parkinson’s patients below!

The benefit of exercise and lower back pain 🚶🏻
Most adults will experience low back pain (LBP) sometime in their lifetime. Regardless of your pain level, being active boosts your mood and just makes life go better. Experts recommend that people with chronic LBP try to get the same amount of activity as the general public.

Some great tips on forming healthy habits 💪🏻
When it comes to habits, we’re all aware of the good ones and the not so good ones. 😓
The mantra ‘old habits die hard’ can be all too true! If we’ve developed a habit of sitting on the couch, or grabbing a couple of biscuits with every morning coffee, those patterns are always there tucked away inside our heads.
Being aware of our habits is one thing, but changing them…that’s where things can get tricky.
Here are four simple strategies to help form healthy habits! 😃

One of the amazing benefits of exercise 🧘🏻♂️
Exercise-induced myokines and their effect on prostate cancer❗
Exercise is recognised by clinicians in the field of clinical oncology for its potential role in reducing the risk of certain cancers and in reducing the risk of disease recurrence and progression; yet, the underlying mechanisms behind this reduction in risk are not fully understood.
A recent study found that exercise improves clinical outcomes in patients with cancer. Preclinical studies suggest the involvement of myokines in exercise-induced tumour suppression. Multiple studies have demonstrated the potential of myokines, such as oncostatin M, secreted protein acidic risk in cysteine (SPARC), irisin and decorin, in decreasing cancer cell proliferation, limiting migration and increasing apoptosis.
