For this one we consulted with the guru on Bicycle History, Ron Thompson, as all the other Hetchins frames we found online were far more ornate. No interactions with Ron could ever be dull, always presenting his thoughts with gusto and a sharp sense of humour that could perhaps be described as droll - "curious or unusual in a way that provokes dry amusement". Inspired by Mark Cavendish's 'CVNDSH', Nick's surname, Clelland, disemvoweled really lends itself to a classy looking name to have on one's bike, don't you think? Cervelo coming out at CRVL is kind of cool too (and so is discovering there is an official word for removing vowels and even better that that word is 'disemvoweled'...!). He also opted for a 3D block pattern which was tricky but rad as it got Jared weilding ye olde pen and paper to put his woodworking skills from high school days to good use. And this is how Nick's CRVL turned CLLLND came out:

Nick's original idea was to beautify his Pearl with poppies but after a few distractions and a big chunk of time he decided to scrap the poppy idea in favour of Water polo balls (a fun brain boggler to try and come up with any possible connection between those things). So, yes, an unusual choice and not for the purists out there but we think the requested polka dot effect and colour combo worked really well. [ 29 more words ]

First time we've been given the opportunity to try out our work on a prosthetic leg and what a refreshing experience it was. But not without its challenges. We had a test run on a sample of the socket to see how the paint would respond to flexing and it seemed that although there was micro fracturing it was less visible with a solid, high gloss layer. We have found quite often that when our client enters the realm CUSTOM - having absolute freedom of choice when it comes to colour and design - they become overwhelmed and don't really know where to start, frequently opting for the classic simplicity of matte black or varying versions of that hue (ie. lack of light). New and exciting from Stan Engelbrecht: KAROOBAIX is a new two-day 404km stage race for modern gravel / cyclocross style bicycles through the South African Karoo on 9 / 10 October 2017. The route is almost exclusively gravel, and range from super smooth hard-packed dirt to soft sand, sharp rocks and corrugations. The race will be semi-supported, and there will be two rest stops with good food, coffee and fresh water along each of the two stages. [ 41 more words ]

Bicycle Maintenance Company, generally means the best place if you want your bike to be custom paint, repaired, maintenaned, restored and resprayed.
“ The Story” - how it all started? Learning how to ride a bike at any age is always a heart pounder. As first time experiences go it must be right up there with winning something, kissing someone and jumping in the sea at Llandudno beach for the first time without having toe-tested the water. That excitement definitely made a lasting impression on Jared when he first took his maiden flight of freedom on his blue Raleigh (as above, complete with knee high socks) on a field up the road from his family home. That quintessential moment of thinking dad was still holding onto the saddle and then looking back to see him waving from a distance. He was in love. But as it is in life, Jared also loved other sports like soccer and cricket. Particularly cricket. He was really good at cricket. Did we mention he was really good at cricket? So when it came to being asked what he wanted to do with his life after school his answer may have come as a surprise to his friends and even himself, when he said:“I really really really want to have my own bicycle shop one day.” The truth is, he’d nurtured this bicycle love all his little life. So it seemed only natural that he would want such a thing, right? Who cares about cricket! This led to job shadowing in the workshop of one of Cape Town’s first bicycle shops, Soloped, resulting in him being a bicycle technician there as his first post-school job. Jared was in his element. The dream was cemented. So a few years and a job change or two later when he met his wife, Mel, she helped him to realise his dream and together they opened BMC in 2004. Their aim was and still is to fill the gap when it comes to the post-purchase servicing requirements of dedicated cyclists.It’s been one heck of a journey with a team committed to keeping the sport of cycling alive. Together we strive to give you the best service humanly possible.
