KaiaMina at Hartenbos Selfsorg Verblyf

The Cape St. Blaize Lighthouse is a historic lighthouse located in Mossel Bay, South Africa. Established in 1864, it stands on a prominent rocky headland known as Cape St. Blaize, overlooking the Indian Ocean. The lighthouse was constructed to guide ships along the treacherous southern coast of Africa, which has a long history of shipwrecks due to its rough seas and hidden rocks.

The tower is a cylindrical structure made of masonry, painted white, and topped with a red lantern. The lighthouse stands about 20 meters tall and has a range of approximately 24 nautical miles. It was originally powered by a paraffin lantern but was electrified in the mid-20th century.

Cape St. Blaize Lighthouse is not only a crucial navigational aid but also a popular tourist attraction. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the ocean and the surrounding landscape from the lighthouse grounds. The area around the lighthouse is also known for the Cape St. Blaize Cave, an archaeological site that has provided valuable insights into early human habitation in the region.

The lighthouse remains operational, managed by the South African National Ports Authority, and continues to be an iconic symbol of Mossel Bay's maritime heritage.
