CAPE TOWN – Kalakoda Boxing Promotions' Friday Fight Night series comes to the Mother City on 28 September at the iconic Castle of Good Hope.
The series offers boxing tournaments at different African cities on the last Friday of every month. This event will be billed 'Kings of the Castle' and Kalakoda Promotions will co-host with Kwesé Sport and the First Nations Project.
“The First Nations Project is delighted to use sport as a platform to promote our cause and initiatives," said Eugene Scheffers, a First Nations Project spokesman. The organization helps to raise awareness of the Cape's indigenous people.
The bill will be headlined by a SA light-heavyweight title bout between Cape Town local Nicholas Radley and Khayeni Hlungwane of Johannesburg. Radley is the current WBF Africa Champion and strongly fancied to claim the vacant title.
“I can’t wait to get in there and mix it with Hlungwane. He is an experienced campaigner and this will be a real test for me,” said Radley who is undefeated in a 6-bout career.
Hlungwane is a veteran of 21 bouts, with 8 wins, 5 of which were inside the distance. In the main undercard bout, Boksburg-born David Rajuili takes on Namibia’s Albinus Felesianu for the vacant ABU (African Boxing Union) SADC (Southern African Development Community) super lightweight title.
The boxers were former sparring partners and both have racked up 20 pro career bouts. The Windhoek-based Felesianu has fared appreciably better with 17 wins as against 11 by Rajuili, who has been fighting out of Cape Town for the past two years.

Saul Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin is official! HBO Boxing announced the middleweight super fight after Canelo coasted to a unanimous decision against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in Las Vegas.
The pair posed in the dismounted ring and will meet on September 16 with a venue yet to be announced.
It is thought that the Dallas Cowboys' AT&T Stadium is a contender along with the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Alvarez had an easy night's work against Chavez Jr, winning every round on all three judges' score cards for a unanimous decision (120-108 X 3).
Golovkin had a far more difficult fight in his last outing, with a tight decision against Daniel Jacobs - many contested the American edged it in the Kazakh's toughest night of his career.
The highly-anticipated fight will also likely decide who is the pound-for-pound No.1 in the sport with the winner of Andre Ward vs Sergey Kovalev also a contender.

Canelo Admits He Got Tired Pounding on Chavez, Then Recovered - Boxing News
During the fight with Chavez Jr., there were several times where Canelo allowed himself to get pinned against the ropes as Chavez Jr. would have brief moments where he actually put some punches together.
Canelo denies that he was hurt and says he was trying to set traps. He does admit that his body got tired by second half of the fight, but he caught a second wind.
“I wasn’t ever hurt. But I was inviting him to open up and exchange so we could give the public a beautiful fight. The preparation, the hard work was done in training and yes of course in the fifth, sixth round I felt a little exhausted but that’s normal. Then I got my second wind and picked it up and finished strong,” Canelo said.

Two new SA boxing champions

Xolani Mcotheli and Lodumo Lamati were crowned South African champions at the Orient Theatre in East London on Sunday afternoon. Mcotheli went on to win the vacant junior -welterweight title while Lamati captured the junior-featherweight title.
Mcotheli, 28, knocked out Khumbulani “Flint” Mdletshe from KwaZulu Natal in the seventh round in a clash for the vacant title which had been vacated by Warren Joubert.
He had previously challenged Jasper Seroka for the vacant South African junior lightweight title in March 2014 but was beaten on points over 12 rounds.
In a fight with both fighters landing stinging shots throughout, the smaller Mcotheli landed a big left to the body in the seventh round that sent Mdletshe down to the canvas where he was counted out by referee Lulama Mtya.
In the other SA title fight the 24-year-old Lamati 11-0-1; 8 boxed well over 12 rounds to outscore the 37-year-old southpaw Mahlangu 20-7; 10 who was making the third defence of his title.
On the undercard former South African junior-lightweight champion Aphiwe Mboyiya outpointed Sibusiso Zingange over ten rounds
TOMMY OOSTHUIZEN WINS ABU TITLE
Former IBO super-middleweight and light-heavyweight champion Tommy Oosthuizen 27-0-2; 16 won the vacant African Boxing Union (South) light-heavyweight title when he knocked out the 39-year-old Said Mbelwa 39-23; 5 of Tanzania in the fifth round at Carnival City near Brakpan on Friday night.
Ruann Visser retained his ABU South heavyweight title with a fourth round knockout win over Kilola Lubika Didier, 37, from the DRC.
Ilunga Makabu 20-2; 19 from the DRC won on a fifth round knockout over Chamunora (Sting) Gonorenda and South African heavyweight champion Osborne Machimana knocked out Sithembile August in the first round.

Former minimumweight and light-flyweight world champion Donnie Nietas 40-14; 22 won the vacant IBF flyweight belt when he beat Komgrich Nantapech 22-4; 15 on a unanimous 12 round points decision at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino in Cebu City, Philippines on Saturday night.
The scores were 117-111 twice and 115-113.
On the same card WBO No 6 rated featherweight Mark Magsayo 16-0; 12 won on a first round knockout over Issa Nampepeche 24-8-4; 11.

It is official, Danie van heerden , after conquering the heavyweight division in MMA (sport) has elected to make the move to the professional Boxing circuit. Following on Danie’s success as a former heavyweight champion in Mixed Martial Arts, Danie has elected to pursue championship gold as a professional boxer. Following on Danie’s application for a pro license and subject to his brain scan, Danie’s first fight will be coming up in less than three weeks where he will debut as a professional fighter in the boxing ring. After fighting for and capturing gold as a Mixed Martial Artist, Danie has his sights firmly set on pursuing both national and international championship gold in his newfound sport of choice. With his sights firmly set on conquering yet another combat sport, Danie is looking forward to the new challenges that are ahead of him and for bringing his passion that he has had for MMA to a different arena. This debut will mark his first fight which will be covered by SuperSport on 31st of March 2017

WBC updates mandatory situation for its world titles
This week WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman issued an update on his organization's title situation in each weight class.
Keep in mind that just because a mandatory fight is due does not mean another fight might not trump it. As Sulaiman explained in his division-by-division rundown, “There is a provision in the rules that is often used by champions and mandatory challengers, which is the step-aside fee.”
That means if the titleholder and the mandatory challenger work out a payment that both sides are comfortable with the titleholder may take an optional defense first.
Of that situation, Sulaiman said it “provides the opportunity for a champion to make a voluntary defense before the mandatory by virtue of receiving acceptance from the mandatory, who has the right to challenge next.”
