This is a story I wrote soon after Ranger Anton Mzimba was murdered. It was never published. Inspired by Matt Lindenberg and John Jurko's incredible film Rhino Man The Movie, I thought it was time to put it out there via my own site. If you read it, great. What you must do is watch their film.

When I did this trail with Lowveld Trails Co., I didn't know what the following months would entail, or that I would be revisiting it in my mind as often as I did. I've added a 'listening' option to the story. I'm not 100% sure about it and think perhaps it would work better with a bit of an introduction about how I came to be doing the story, or why. It's a work in progress, and any feedback is welcome. If you read the story, I hope you enjoy it!

I have a website that I've been avoiding launching. It's beautiful (thank-you Katie Nicole) and anything missing or outstanding is on me (I haven't replied to all her emails!). My Enneagram coach would have a field day with all the mixed-up stuff in my head around this - I'm a 4 -except I stopped sessions (sorry Ayesha!).

I created the site to self-publish more of my work. And if I don't launch it, I'll never get round to finishing it. So, here it is: https://www.writingwild.co.za/.

I'll share specific stories from time to time. The content for now is mainly older work, but I'll be updating it with new stories.

This is not how you launch a website - but at least it's in the world now, not just in my head.

Falling for adventure: Victoria Falls revealed - Sawubona magazine 10/05/2024

This was a fun story to write. I can't wait to be back in July.

Falling for adventure: Victoria Falls revealed - Sawubona magazine Victoria Falls is a world-renowned wonder, but also a warm-hearted Zimbabwean town full of surprises. You can see the cloud of spray from Victoria Falls before you’ve even landed at the airport named after this global landmark in Zimbawe’s Matabeleland North province.

I am working through a WWF Nature Breaking Podcast transcript: "Annually, 80 million tons of surplus food are not consumed. Farmers, manufacturers, households and other businesses in the United States spend $408 billion each year to grow, process, transport, and dispose of food that is never eaten."

I learnt so much writing this article. Forever grateful to Alex MacLennan for having faith in my abilities, and, of course for his and his team's exceptional editing and guidance (Teresa, Erin - just the best).

Last story for the year in Getaway, about a potentially life changing, and definitely life affirming experience with Lowveld Trails Co. in a little-known Kalahari Reserve.
