What a day in Cape Town!

What an incredible night at the ballet. Congratulations to Joburg Ballet and The Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra group for a beautiful, expertly executed production at the Joburg Theatre. Truly world class! With my good friend Riëtte Schönfeldt, a true lover of ballet. I had the honour of meeting Marianela Nuñez and Vadim Muntagirov.

The concert will also feature two song cycles by Franco Prinsloo ( ), namely Drie Nagliedjies (poetry by W.E.G. Louw) and Vier Fynbos Feetjies (poetry by Antjie Krog). We will also perform a small selection of songs by Franz Schubert and Richard Strauss.

I am honoured and excited to be performing Twee Liefdes - 'n Kunsliedreis on Sunday 2 April.

This performance is part of a series of concerts in affiliation with a retrospective exhibition of the work of South African artist, Dirk Meerkotter, at the Pretoria Art Museum.

The concert is a journey through the art of song with a specific focus on poetry. Franco Prinsloo Composer/Conductor and Eugene Joubert are my collaborators in this exploration.

Vocal settings of poetry by William Shakespeare, N.P. van Wyk Louw, W.E.G. Louw, I.D. du Plessis and Rainer Maria Rilke are interpolated with poetic excerpts from Breyten Breytenbach.

One of these poems is entitled "16 September 2010" from the anthology Katalekte. Here is a recording of Breytenbach reading the poem:

What a beautiful day in Wakkerstroom. I saw two of the best chamber concerts of my life with some of my favourite people. Eugene Joubert and Gerrit Koorsen , you were phenomenal in Rachmaninoff Restored.
