It is a printed cotton fabric and the cotton used is grown locally in the Eastern Cape.

Umbhaco dresses are perfect for any celebration!

Every region has outfits that are unique to its culture and tradition. In Kenya there is kanga, in Nigeria the Agbada, and in South Africa there is Umbhaco. "Umbhaco” is now the term given to the traditional attire of the Xhosa speaking people. The Xhosa people used to wear red and orange ochre as their traditional colour, and in modern South Africa, white fabric is popular too. The Umbhaco outfits are decorated with black bias binding and are made from an extremely durable cotton that’s made to last. Part of the rich tradition of umbhaco is the incorporation of beadwork into garments and this has been a major form of aesthetic expression for nearly 200 years.
